The general consensus I'm getting from the national

Aug 30, 2013, 1:11 PM

media for this game is: UGAy has a great offense and Clemson had a mediocre defense last year--Okay, I can buy that. Then: Clemson has a really good offense and UGAy lost a lot on defense BUT...their like, you know, an SEC defense with a lot of good recruits so, UGAy has to win.

I just don't get why their young D is getting any more respect vs our O than ours is vs theirs.

If the Defense that played against LSU shows up (particularly the D-line--I know, we don't have Goodman anymore but still) I think we're going to surprise some people.

I'm calling it now: Clemson 35 UGAy 28

Not flaming here at all. You guys cannot take anything from holding LSU to 24 points. Their offense was horrid last year. Mett is a horrible QB.
The respect on D thing is based on a couple of things.
1. Our D is not as green as the media is making it out to be. 8 of the guys playing D have played in college.
2. The guys that haven't played were all highly recruited by you and us. A few of those guys enrolled early.

I think the other thing is: Everyone knows exactly what we have on O, you guys on the other hand have lost some players and dont know how new guys will gel.

When it come to our defenses, I just don't know what we have and if you were truthful, I don't think you know what you have either.

I agree, anybody who tries to extrapolate anything from that

Aug 30, 2013, 1:46 PM

LSU game is a fool. That offense that Les Miles & Co. were calling was a joke. It was so simplistic and vanilla; and yet Clemson still needed an almost miraculous comeback to win. 4th and 16... are you kidding me!? That happens like once every ten shots.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I agree, anybody who tries to extrapolate anything from that

Aug 30, 2013, 1:58 PM

LMAO!!!! Why did you create a Clemson user name? It is obvious that you are not a Clemson fan. Why not post under a real handle?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We gave them two easy scores, lost Sammy after 2 plays

Aug 30, 2013, 2:38 PM [ in reply to I agree, anybody who tries to extrapolate anything from that ]

If anything, we tried to give the game away but won despite ourselves.

Also, that maligned defense didn't just keep them off the field, it was beating them back physically. Doesn't matter if their offense stinks or not, they got manhandled.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It wont be long and we will all know! I say a shootout!

Aug 30, 2013, 1:55 PM [ in reply to Re: The general consensus I'm getting from the national ]

I say our defense better than theirs! Offense Offense Offense tomm night in the valley!

i saw a stat that said on y'alls 2-deep depth chart, on d ,

Aug 30, 2013, 1:56 PM [ in reply to Re: The general consensus I'm getting from the national ]

some ridiculous # like 16 of the 22 or something like that, had never seen the field in college. not a good stat against an offensive team like clemson, esp. at clemson.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Our talking more about QB pressure than points.

Aug 30, 2013, 1:59 PM [ in reply to Re: The general consensus I'm getting from the national ]

We had like 6 sacks in that game. I don't care how bad the Offense you're playing is, that's good.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We man-handled a big, strong OL

Aug 30, 2013, 2:39 PM [ in reply to Our talking more about QB pressure than points. ]

Even if the offense behind that OL wasn't good, our smaller guys were laying the wood on them. Convincingly.

That is the thing I took away from LSU. Everyone knows their offense stinks, but if we can get that kind of nastyness off the line, we'll do well against UGA.

Aug 30, 2013, 2:04 PM [ in reply to Re: The general consensus I'm getting from the national ]

Played? Really? Bailey has appeared in a whooping 3 games, amassing 1 career tackle. Dawson has an astounding 12 tackles. Neither have ever started.

Your NG Thornton has destroyed Ds with 1.5 career tackles. LB Wilson tallied 6 tackles in 2012. Wow!

Your seasoned backup K Beless has one FG..... in the Spring game.

The following DBs have never recorded a stat; Jones, Sailors, Norman, Matthews, Bowman, Langley, and Fluker.

But but but they were great prospects.... really?

Dawson- 3 star ESPN, #69cb
Fluker- 3 star max preps, #136 overall
Deloach- 3 star Rivals, #50 in GA

Ok, I'm done now. You mutts can return to your draft beer....

Psh, you guys think facts are relevant to a UGAyer?***

Let me get this straight:

Aug 30, 2013, 2:12 PM [ in reply to Re: The general consensus I'm getting from the national ]

Your defense loses 7 starters, but that doesn't mean anything because the guys replacing them have played college football and are highly recruited.

HOWEVER, our offense is a big question mark because we lost our running back and have to replace him with a rising senior who averaged more yards per carry than Ellington did last year and was ranked the 4th best all purpose running back out of high school when he was recruited. Unfortunately, we also have to replace a star wide receiver with...what's this?...a star wide receiver and four other wide receivers...none of which were ranked lower than 11th in the country when we recruited them and two of which have plenty of college experience? Oh, it must be because of our rising senior, three year starting QB? No? How about all those OL we lost? What? They're almost all back?

Oh, and lest this little gem gets lost, this is my favorite "SEC" habit - "we are unstoppable, until we are stopped, then we are unstoppable except for that and everyone knew it all along." We pound Tennessee and then "they suck." We pound Auburn and then "they suck." We pound LSU and then "they suck."

If we can't take pride in holding LSU to 24 points when we spotted them 7 in the first quarter and they had one lucky breakaway run in the second half, then what about these points by LSU?:

South Carolina - LSU scored 23
A&M - LSU scored 24
Alabama - LSU scored 17
Miss State - LSU scored 37
Ole Miss - LSU scored 41
Arkansas - LSU scored 20

I guess those defenses weren't worth a darn either.

Re: Let me get this straight:

Aug 30, 2013, 2:22 PM

What you are not mentioning is that Clemson's defense had a month to prepare for LSU's horrid offense.

The SEC teams you are mentioning were beat up during the season and only had a week to prepare for LSU, and those games weren't at neutral sites.

If Clemson was in the SEC and played LSU during the middle of the season, Clemson's defense would have a much harder time holding LSU to 24 points.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We had a month to prep for LSU and all summer for

Aug 30, 2013, 2:31 PM

UGAy... How is that a point in your favor?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Congratulations. Your response could not be dumber.

Aug 30, 2013, 2:35 PM [ in reply to Re: Let me get this straight: ]

A month to prepare...FOR A BAD OFFENSE!?!

So what...SEC defenses are so unaccustomed to bad offenses that they couldn't comprehend what they were looking at? Do you realize how stupid that sounds?

You don't need a month to prepare for a bad offense. You don't need a day to prepare for a bad offense. You need an offseason, like your defense got, to prepare for an offense like Clemson's.

LSU had a month to prepare for our "mediocre" ACC defense.

Sorry, this is the worst logic I've ever read. Please return to whatever Georgia or South Carolina message board will validate you, because it won't happen here.

Re: Congratulations. Your response could not be dumber.

Aug 30, 2013, 3:05 PM

LSU runs the same #### no matter what. Clemson and everybody in the world knew exactly what LSU was going to do. Their play calling was terrible.

Clemson having a month to prepare for that vanilla offense helped them much more than LSU having a month to prepare for Clemson's defense.

LSU's offense wasn't going to get drastically better all of a sudden. The QB was not good and the play calling was bad all season.

But Clemson got to watch a lot of film, and heal up for LSU's bad offense. There were no surprises.

Add in the fact that nobody was giving Clemson a chance, and they came in with a fire and LSU came in without the same chip on their shoulder.

I'm saying when teams like Alabama give up 17 points to LSU, or Texas A&M give up 24, etc... that doesn't mean Clemson's defense is on par with those schools because LSU scored "only" 24 against Clemson.

I'm saying that the circumstances were different. Those other schools played LSU during the heat of SEC play in the middle of a season while teams are fighting for the SEC championship and possibly a national championship birth. Clemson had a month to prepare at a neutral site against and LSU team who felt snubbed to be playing in the lowly Peach Bowl.

The circumstances are not the same, so it wouldn't be wise to compare scores like that.

That's what I'm saying. You cannot take Clemson's performance in the Peach Bowl and compare it to how a team like Alabama did against LSU during SEC play in the middle of the season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Now this...this is just embarrassing. I'll let you go now.****

Oh, the "we beat each other up" bs

Aug 30, 2013, 2:41 PM [ in reply to Re: Let me get this straight: ]

Football is a physical game, everyone gets beaten up. Ankles roll, ribs get bruised and broken, ligaments and tendons tear. It doesn't matter who is playing, when you throw big guys at each other, #### happens.

This isn't unique to the SEC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Oh, the "we beat each other up" bs

I know it isn't unique to the SEC.

But the SEC is known for their physical, smash mouth style of play.

LSU's offensive line got worked over by Clemson's DL in the Peach Bowl. I suspect that starting LSU starting two FR on the right side had something to do with it.

Much more so than your D's replacements. That's not even a knock, go look at some box scores. Nuk, Sammy, and Humphries got the lion's share of the receptions and possessions, but these other guys had their big plays and were out there learning the whole year.

Validating Clemson's win over LSU in a bowl game would be like validating West Virginia's 70 point win over Clemson in the Orange Bowl. Most Bowl games are not like regular season conference games.
