Since someone brought up the "Michigan State Miracle"...

Oct 22, 2015, 1:18 PM

what is the greatest/miracle type play that Clemson has made? For me, its Jerry Butler's "The Catch".

Gaines Adams play has got to be the single biggest momentum swing I have ever seen in a game. We were dead and buried before that play, and after it, a totally different football game broke out.

The biggest single momentum shift I've ever seen

Oct 22, 2015, 1:26 PM

Gaines running that messed up FG back.

Every Tiger fan in the stadium thought we were losing prior to that play, and every Tiger fan in the stadium thought we were winning it after. Both were almost 100% locks in the minds of our fans as we were sitting in the rain watching the sloppy performance.

Re: Since someone brought up the "Michigan State Miracle"...

Oct 22, 2015, 1:28 PM

For the closest to the same emotion (i.e., thinking a sure defeat was inevitable only to have it turn around into a win in unexpected fashion), for me it has to be Gaines Adams' molesting Wake's kicker for the takeaway :)

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What is often forgotten about that play

Oct 22, 2015, 1:29 PM

Is that there was still a whole quarter to go, and we still needed to score more and stop them as we were still behind.

But there was just this feeling that we now could not be stopped, and wake was doomed.

Weird game and weird play. Didn't think we had a chance to come back the way our offense was playing. The legend of #93 was born that day. One of my favorite Tigers.

I didn't witness this game but I remember hearing about a play where a Clemson defender batted away a Gamecock pass on a two point conversion allowing the Tigers to win 7-6. Anybody here know the details?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't know of that game

Oct 22, 2015, 1:49 PM

Not to take away from either of "The Catch" plays, but the play Gaines made seems more miraculous.

Re: The Gaines Adams play is #1 for me

Its not my #1 but it is right up there when you think about the fact that he blew up the kicker, sort of tipped the ball to himself and ran it in. A tremendous individual effort to change the course of the the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is no 1 because Gaines was from my home town.

Underwood only scored a TD on the 2nd interceptioin...the first one he was run down, I think by George Rogers, at about the 10 yard line.

4th and 25.

Gaines Adams, definitely. We were down 17-3 going into the fourth. They were about to kick a field goal to go up 20-3. That play made it instead 17-10, and we steamrolled them in the fourth for a 27-17 win. Crazy momentum swing, in their house.

Oct 23, 2015, 8:56 AM

lol - for me I still remember Adam Humphries running the punt return back for a TD. I haven't seen any of us do that forever. Is that still possible?

Of course, the Boulware INT for a TD was pretty darn good too.

Artavis Scott stepping on to coot had for a TD was awesome. :) Loved that one.

Mike Williams stretched out for a TD reception.

DW4's first TD to Peake vs. UGA is a classic already.

That said - Gaines TD was definitely the best. But I could list hundreds of plays that were awesome.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

just an aside, can we talk about...

Oct 23, 2015, 9:04 AM

Emory Smith dragging that coot for 10 yards in the 95 coot game. That was pretty f'n sweet!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not a miracle play, but perhaps the best play was Spiller's kickoff return vs Maryland

Oct 23, 2015, 3:31 PM

He had about three guys draped on him, one of which was trying to wrestle the ball away. He somehow got away (and lost a shoe in the process) and scored a TD. It was incredible.
