Sad state of our rivalry

Nov 25, 2012, 9:52 AM

I have been a regular attendee to Clemson v Carolina games since the late 80’s. I must say, I miss the smack-talking, venom-spewing Carolina fans who, by the end of most games, would tuck their tail between their collective legs and hit the exits. And when they won, it would almost come a surprise, and Gamecock nation would enter a frenzy-like state and beat their chest like Congolese Silverbacks.

At the game last night, the #### lovers around us did no smack-talking, not even the college-age ones. All they did is cheer when Clemson screwed up or the Gamecocks made a play, and late in the game looked around and just smiled at us, almost like they wanted to pat us on the head. This is a new world order I am not comfortable with.

Dabo has done a good job with our football program and we have consistently shredded the sisters-of-the-poor on our schedule. However, it is clear to me he was outcoached and out-athleted last night. Carolina had a superior game plan and executed it with a back-up quarterback, almost as if to rub sand in our eyes. Allowing an opponent to hold the ball 40 minutes on your home field is unforgivable.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not suggesting Dabo is on the hot seat. What I am saying is, whether you like it or not, the gap between us and our rival has become wide, and losing 5-6 in a row will NOT be tolerated in this rivalry. I can see another 10-1 Clemson team showing up at the Roach next year only to be beaten again.

What is the answer? I’m not sure. What I am sure of is Dabo need to get this monkey off his back next year if he wants our program to garner any national respect. Otherwise, we are just another team in the “weak” ACC.

he should be on the hot seat..........

think about it

while our conference doesn't "prevent" us from going to a national title game (should we ever go undefeated), but it leads to a misconception that we're "GOOD".

we're AT BEST 8-4 in a decent conference...........and 8-4 at clemson is unacceptable

4 in a row is inexcusable and pathetic

these "clemson fans" who think we've "turned the corner" with dabo has been misled.......unfortunately i know people hate hearing this, but SCar is the "barometer of success"..............we've been stomped by them 4 times in a row to end with records of (8-4,6-6,9-3,10-2).........no matter how "GOOD" you think we are.......it's smoke and mirrors b/c of the pathetic conference we're in

we are NOT improving.........if anything we're staying the same........or STAGNANT

You make good points, actually

I'm not ready to fire the guy, but this losing to the #### lovers cannot continue. Beating them is a Clemson birthright, and 10 win seasons with a loss to the ##### is like kissing your sister.

i wish i could have switched seats with you. the coot fans sitting around us ( young and old ) were the most arragant punks , they didn't know anything about football. ( ex. one fan complaining out loud because the 5 yd. offsides penalty on 3rd and 10 didn't result in a first down) these guys booed when we introduced out seniors , chanted during our alma mater , flipped off the refs whenever a penalty was called against them. they thought there should have been a pass interferance call on every incomplete pass play they had. even the carolina fans sitting behind us were openly disgusted with the way most of them were acting. I know all fanbases (Clemson included ) have their share of classless fans , but if the majority of our fan base acted as the majority of theirs does i would be done with college football.

That is what I have endured many times in the past
