Recruiting Rankings

Does it matter at this point? Checking Rivals and 247 this morning and it looks like coots got the top LB out of Mississippi. He decommitted from Miss State? Not sure if any good but he boosted their class up to 13. I really hope we can get out of the position we are in right now and rise back to the top. I'm not ready for the glory days to end!

They have a quantity of 3 stars. Makes there ranking look good but the key is the avg star for the class. They look to be at a 3 average. Will not help them playing in the SEC.

We need bodies, period.
With the injuries we suffered through this past year, we need more available for "Next man up"

So you are saying we should just sign anybody willing to grab a Clemson offer regardless of our culture and the fact that most would hit the portal after their first or second year because they get very little playing time?

I work with the mother of Jaylon Sneed."Mr.Football" in SC

he wasn't offered by us because we already had the IGM line backer committed leading him to ND. his mother said there was a great chance he would have come to Clemson if offered. With scholarships to offer why not offer him. He is up for the Buckus award now. I know Dabo has reasons for limiting offers, but thats the gamble when players decommit

I agree but really don’t want to go back to offering kids with offers to small schools just to get to 85, but I know where you are coming from. We do seem lite in numbers in regards to the 85 schollies allowed.

I've noticed that we have five in state commits, S.C. is not a high quality player recruiting state, when is the last time we've had to take so many in state players?

It's been a while. We've had our busts of highly rated in state kids too. DK, Feaster, Josh Belk. Goes in cycles. Just so happens a banner year for in state kids. With the 3 decommited, we've had a rough cycle. Especially when you consider the ones we have now include a kicker, a hybrid linebacker 3* Woodaz which will most likely redshirt, and a legacy TE.

Kendrick was hardly a bust. He's an early 2nd rounder in the next draft. No arguing the other two though ??

How was Kendrick a bust?

He starts this year if he doesn't get in to trouble. Pinckney wasn't a bust, he played a lot. We just out recruited him.
Dukes was a 3 star, a low one

..if he doesn't get in trouble. Well if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.
Remembering from Tnetters, many were glad he was gone.

Saying a guy who could be a first rounder

is a bust is just stupid. He started for us for two years, and would have started this year. If he doesnt screw up Goodrich is likely returning as he would not have received the opportunity to play as much and make himself a day 2 pick

I never referred to any of those three as busts. That was a term you brought up.
I just pointed out they weren't of the quality that you stated Clemson recruits. Every team has guys that don't live up to quality expectations. Just saying it's the case with Clemson and SCar recruits.

Interesting how just a decade ago we were stoked using the class ranking numbers.., and now they're not important, of which I agree. Still, have to give props to Shane for recruiting a good class for his first.

Roster management is more important than rankings. Thats the mistake we made a few years ago. If you have 16WR on the roster, signing another 4 star looks good, but what you need is another OL or DL. We have 4 open spots on the DL. If you don't sign a kid with 3.8 star grade you LL be left picking from a group of 3.00. Or you can go to the portal.

Unless you are top 4 every year, and not named Georgia, you are having stellar classes and likely in the CFP most times. 5-12 every year plus Georgia(if ranked in the top 4) means you are having really good classes and can make the CFP in really good years and could possibly win it if your coach is not named Kirby.
