Death Valley game one

Who is going to get through the offensive line and stop gurley up front? UGA offense is play-action based and if the run isnt stopped, murray will not be stopped.Predictions for who will be able to be a playmaker early on?

Murray = Cheap lawn chair on the road..... He folds very easily. If its a shoot you want game on. You lost 9 off D.

true, murray can be very inconsistent, but his last two performances at the sec championship and capitol one bowl show that he can do significantly better with the improving line, but if he doesnt show up, ill be watching TB do work because i still love clemson

Our D should improve under Venables. Our home crowd will make the difference.

georgia will have a better line, and jordan jenkins can put pressure on boyd, and weve seen TB under big pressure when clowney tossed yalls line around like nothing, and then TB was acked five times. now we dont have jarvis but weve still got some talent contrary to popular belief. also, who ever wins this, CU and UGA have to dominate USuC they need to go back to four losses or worse and plummit into mediocrity again with their" SEC,SEC!"

It's a lot to ask from so many new starters
Feb 28, 2013, 11:54 PM

Clemson knows this all to well with its Oline a few seasons ago.
Clowney put pressure on virtually every QB he went up against. He is a freak of nature as I'm sure you are well aware of. I think most everyone was running for their life against him...not just Boyd.
Their is a revived energy in our team, something that many refer to as "swagger." It's been missing for quite some time and I think these boys are ready for their time in the lime light.
Should be a good game regardless. Would have felt much more secure had we secured Gurley at RB. That's my biggest (?) for this season. Who will step up behind Hot Rod?

Agree on the last part. But our LT as a true freshman held mingo and Montgomery at bay so after an off season our OT's will be much better. This years OL will be much better than last.

Keep in mind that when we play Ughey. They will still be trying to make BOND to get 3 or 4 of their starters out of jail. Not counting the ones that will be suspended over summer time Jail issues. Bring it on JawJa boys, our Tigers will be rocking on ready when you get here.

Tajh is where it all starts
Mar 1, 2013, 12:51 PM
|

If he plays an excellent game, Clemson wins. Not to say Murray won't, but we don't lose when the offense rolls (by design), and it all hinges on Tajh.
If it becomes a shootout, Clemson is almost guaranteed a win, due to the pace difference.
However, if Georgia keeps us on the sidelines, they could beat us like a drum. The best way to beat us is to keep our offense off the field.

here (and will participate in spring camp), so you will see immediate dividends there. the returning interior d-line were all freshmen, rs freshmen or sophs, so you should expect improvement from a physical standpoint, as well as technical improvement since they will have a better understanding what the d wants to do. we lost goodman on the edge, but that is all. crawford will have to live up to his hype and step it up a notch. expect to see shaq lawson early and often. beasley is a bit undersized but was our best pass rusher a year ago. a name to remember - kellen jones, the linebacker that sat out last year after following bv from oklahoma. it is said that our offensive coaches have stated that "they are glad he can finally start hitting ANOTHER team!"

So the "Dawg" Trolls are out in full force now???
They think Gurley and Murray will shred us? Yes, they will score points, but there is WAY they can run toe to toe with THE most explosive, up tempo offense they will see all year!!
Clemson will run 80 to 100 plays in that August heat.....in the valley!
LSU Defenders were playing in a covered dome....howd that work out for em????
Clemson 43 Georgia 17

It's going to be a great game. While I do hope our Tigers beat them senseless, I think it'd probably be foolish to get too cocky at this point. Especially when we're talking season opener.
I still have the bad taste of that Bama game in my mouth (we were both higher ranked teams that were expected to do good things that year). While this is a completely different team, we're all really talking out of our assess when predicting what a team that has yet to play a game together does

Long day for us. Best way to beat us is to keep us off the field. If we can't stop the run, we'd be watching from the sidelines way more than we need to.
On a similar note, if we have any kind of a decent running game, it's going to be a long day for the Dawgs. If we have a good or great day running the ball, it's probably game over.
But who knows which team will run better at this point!

I know it's a Clemson website, so I don't expect you to know all the ins and outs of UGA's defense right now.
I just want to say that all of you are going to be surprised how good UGA's defense is going to be.
Sure, marquis players are leaving for the NFL.
Georgia's defense sends marquis players to the NFL every year, and reloads.
Quick Fun Facts:
CB Damien Swann returns, he led the team in INT's last year.
Linebackers Herrera and Jenkins return. They were both starters. Those two accounted for half of all fumbles recovered for UGA's defense last year. These are the kind of guys that are always at the right place at the right time. You didn't hear much about them because it was Jarvis Jones sacking the qb's, and Ogletree DDT'ing Georgia Tech players.
DE Garrison Smith returns. He's the 300 pound style DE you expect in a 3-4. He started every game last year. He's big, but also quick on his feet (for a 300 pound guy).
That's just a brief.
We all know TB and AM and Gurshall are all good players, great offenses.
This one might come down to defense, and UGA is not as hurt as alot of people make them out to be.
If you think Georgia is going to field a bunch scrubs fresh off the schoolbus in Death Valley, you've got another thing coming.
Thugs, maybe. Scrubs, no. These guys are mouthsmacking skull thumpers. Clemson's best bet is to try to confuse them.

More pursuant to your original point- you really can't stop Gurshall. You just have to deal with it.
The best thing you can do is take an early lead, and keep Gurshall out of the game by forcing Mike Bobo to call more pass plays to play catch up.
That affords Clemson the chance to get some sacks and interceptions.
It would be a snowball effect.
Take early lead, add to it. Don't let your foot off the gas.
