Offensive line

Keep things in perspective
Orange:
LT: Tristan Leigh (3rd string) LG: Collin Sadler (high schooler) OC: Will Putnam RG: Trent Howard (3rd string) RT: Marcus Tate
White:
LT: Blake Miller (high schooler) LG: Mason Trotter (2nd string) OC: Ryan Linthicum (2nd string) RG: Nathan Brooks (walk-on) RT: Mitchell Mayes (2nd string)
How did you expect them to hold up against our defensive line? Did you really expect Sadler to look good against Tyler Davis? The kid was blocking 5’10, 225 pound DEs 6 months ago. Did you expect Blake Miller to hold up against Myles Murphy (1st round pick)? Our defensive line has about 8 dudes that can start for most teams in the country. Of course our young, inexperienced offensive line was going to look bad.

Facts don’t matter to the moronic segment of our fanbase. Complain, assign blame and call for coaches being fired is all they know

I’m just genuinely confused why they expected our offense to be competitive with so many backups and walk-ons.
Fans on this board simultaneously feel like our defense will be one of the best in the nation and also expect backups and walk-ons to score on them. The dissonance.

how poor our QB downfield passing accuracy looked. If DJ is improved, let’s see some timing passes where hits his target in stride.

Hard to get your feet planted and make a good throw when Murphy, Henry, and XT are breathing down your neck at the snap of the ball.

Terrible conditions. A helpless offensive line. Zero running game. Walk-on WRs. 4 string TE.
Blame DJ.

DEs for sure. Added to that is they didn't have to focus on the QB in the read plays due to the touch rules for the QB. Those cats were causing issues for sure!

And, if we’re being honest, our WRs aren’t what they used to be. I don’t see a Nuk, Sammy, Mike, or Tee out there.

the talent and depth there is something to behold as well. From all appearances, we did not miss on any of the guys coming in and some other dudes are stepping up. If we can keep these kids in the program, we are set here for a while.

Were there any of our starters on the O line not playing?

Tate is probably going to start LG this year but was playing out of position at tackle yesterday.

Tate will probably be the starting LG, but he was playing RT yesterday. Putnam was at center, his new position.
Those were the only 2 starters that played.

Thank you for posting this. I was thinking the same way and wondering how everyone was trashing the o line based on the spring game. I sure wish we had 10 stud offensive lineman that were all healthy and played yesterday but that was not the case. I am still hopeful that our o line will be improved over last years unit.

it's been that way forever. You can pretty much name any position on the field the last few years and we have studs that are highly thought of, were drafted high, have NFL careers, etc... QBs, WRs, DLs, DBs, even kickers. Every position except OL. A couple of injuries before a spring game should allow some highly recruited guys to get their chance to shine, not be used as excuses. We haven't recruited well at this position in a long time... and you should know that.
