Mukaba seemed to have gone backwards

Jan 1, 2023, 2:49 PM

What happened to Mukaba this season as he always seemed to be trying to run someone down. Was he playing in the wrong position. He seemed to have lost speed.

I agree. He was really underwhelming after having such a good freshman year.

He's been hurt. He isn't a CB IMO either. The necessity to play him @ CB is b/c we have a lack of quality depth at that position.

Muk has to gain quality weight as well--hopefully he heals up and can gain strength in the Spring. I think he can be really good if playing in right spot and gains strength.

that you need to ask speaks volumes about your lack of Clemson football knowledge

Was hoping we would get the CB transfer from VA but here goes FL ST once again. They are following TCUs plan with transfers. These transfers play hard as they are trying to use their new team to get them in the NFL. As said before TCU had 18 transfers out of 22 starters. So they used 3 of Their original high school recruits

Why don't you know what you're talking about before you post

Andrew Mukuba played almost the entire year with a Dislocated Elbow, and had to wear a contraption on his arm to keep it from coming out again. I don't know to what extent it had healed by The Orange Bowl. https://theclemsoninsider.com/2022/10/28/mukuba-discusses-health-following-return-from-injury/

He's a safety not corner . Our schemes need work put your players in the best position. Rarely have I seen corners with safety help over the top

I thought that, too, prior to the ACC Championship Game.

I hadn’t seen him play in person since the WF game.

During commercial breaks he was having trouble just walking back to the sideline. Major limp.

I wasn’t happy with him either before I saw that. Guy has been dealing with multiple injuries but just gutted through the season. Mukuba is a warrior and doesn’t give up! So give him a pass this season and pray that he heals up. If he gets 100% healthy, you’ll see a player better than his freshman year.

probably is a depth chart red flag that a clearly diminished guy is playing versus a backup who is ok.

Dude is a 100% safety, he does much better keeping plays in front of him, he gives us a bit of help when a cb busts on coverage. Currently we have no red zone d because our opponents score 40 yard tds.

Due to injuries in the spring, the coaches experimented with him at CB, nickel and dime. Since he matched up well against our garbage WRs, the coaches believed that he could play those spots this year. Teams picked on him, so I guess the coaches were wrong.

He also wasted a year of his physical development too because he’s only 180 pounds. He probably prepared all summer to be a nickel or dime because that’s where the coaches were moving him. And now he’s too small to play safety.

I’m sure I’m wrong though. I’m just an armchair coach.

Makuba is a safety not a CB. Some of the defenses run this year have put a lot of pressure on the safeties to cover man. More times than not that will be a problem.

There needs to be more Nickle and Dime packages with extra CBs in the game. I will say that maybe it is due to CB experience and next year may be different.
