Letter to Ron Morris: USuC is worthy of PSU penalty

After reading Ron Morris's column in The State trashpaper this morning, I fired off this message to him. I was glad to see him write the article. But if he expects USuC to admit they did anything wrong or to change how they handle future underage drinking issues, he is nuts. This was the first semi-hard hitting column of Ron's since he got called out by Spurlid. I think Ron continues to be afraid of the bully, Spurlid. So, here goes....
"That was a nice column today. Underage drinking is illegal. Illegal. I don't know why so many people don't understand that. Admittedly the college environment today makes it too tempting on students. We need leaders and authority figures to encourage kids to not break the law. Sadly Coach Spurrier does not get that. And Ray Tanner has caved in. I expected so much more of Ray Tanner. Maybe the NCAA needs to punish USC like they did Penn State. It seems like there is a lack of institutional control at USC too. The football program and Coach Spurrier are not being challenged by the administration when they allow illegal activity among student athletes to go unpunished and as you say respond "with a laissez faire, boys-will-be-boys attitude". Can you see the similarity with Penn State?"

Yes the infractions are like apples to cheese, but the greater overall theme is there.

My point is you can say it's a "lack of institutional

control", etc. Whatever...but comparing what went on at Penn State to kids drinking underage is way off base. Maybe SC has a "lack of instututional control"...won't debate that. Penn State had more than a "lack of institutional control". I think the original poster could have compared SC to some other school than Penn State.

"lack of institutional control" is the point

The results of that can be anything. PSU was not fined for what resulted from the lack of institutional control. They were fined for having an environment lacking institutional control.

around the cootlumbia area. He just writes his once in the blue moon critical articles, to rile up the coot fanbase so they can think everybody is against them.

This is a huge stretch......smoking dope is Illegal too and college kids do it...At Clemson, maybe the NCAA should drop the hammer on that, Or how about Violence, it is Illegal to get into physical confrontations with weapons but that happened at Clemson with athletes from two programs..."lack of institutional control" especially when you throw in the Deandre Mcdaniel incident where he threw his girlfriend down the stairs. I know it is grasping for straws, but you can grasp for straws with every program in the country. I doubt you guys think that CLemson has 'lack of institutional control" because of several cases of violence, or smoking dope, or carrying adderall pills, i don't either but i don't think USC's issues with Alcohol represent "lack of institutional control", not even sure how that has to do with institutional control at all even.

I don't think i will be, i was fair, pointed out how we as Gamecocks...coots..cluckers whathave you could stretch something that the tigers...tiggers...taters..do and make it as bad as PSU, but i also said there is no way you guys would think your program is on the same level as PSU just as we don't, that term Lack of institutional control gets thrown out there way too much. I don't think either side really believes the other has institutional control issues, we just hate each other so we throw jabs. eh Rivalries man, gotta love them.

+1. Thanks. I didn't want to respond, given that I'm a double-dipped "Coot." But this was over the top for this board or, for that matter, FGF. I don't see a lot of difference.
