Tommy Bowden was able to have better athletes than USC. Could he beat USC with their current talent, probably not as few have been able to over the last 3-4 years.
On the other hand, one could argue that TB kept USC down by taking some of the athletes that USC now has. Beating them helps. Sure Dabo is a great recruiter, but the records speaks for itself.
Regardless, the point is that neither TB nor JL have been able to get over the hump. TB was ACC, BCS bowls and JL is USC and CWS.

Tanner used to be like that. When he loosened up his players had fun, were loose, and won 2 CWS. The bunny USC has is stupid, but the kids like it and I guarantee that JL would have allow something like that.

now I blame JL for not building a stronger program and not having a championship before the coots, but he choked and has choked ever since.

USC down. They did not get better until he left...In fact, CU has not beaten USC since the year TB started the season as HC.
The two things are not mutually exclusive, but there could be something there....not saying CU is not better off with Dabo in the lead, just that there could be a cause and effect and TB not given proper credit. He had just signed an extension right before he was fired.
Anyway, JL may or may not be the best option as leader of CU baseball based on who would be the replacement, but it at least has come time to have that discussion.

Hard to argue him being a good coach. As much as u want to deny it. Great coach? No . Just like Bowden., he has gotten us as far as he can
