I’m a Sooner & I come in peace

After LR dropped a nuke on our football program earlier this week it’s been madness…Anyways, I wanted y’all to know there are 2 names we are hearing for our HC.. Venables 90% Dan Lanning 9.9% and a mixture of a couple.1%..I have no sources but I’m pretty plugged in to the beat of the OU program. To be honest, I think y’all better start preparing for the loss of Venables & hope it doesn’t obliterate half of your 23 recruiting class.. Thanks for letting me join a share my thoughts and I’m interested in seeing what all of u think,, -Boomer Sooner-

We all know you’re not a sooner, but let’s say that you are. You’re simply too dumb to realize you had your chances and you hired big brother aka, a big huge floppy cawlk. BV wouldn’t take that steaming pile of trash if you paid him double the offer.
Now, get out of here before you really embarrass yourself.

He must work for Oklahoma Insider. Has not gotten anything right yet. But, probably a coot trying find some measure of payback since their football couldn't.

wow... thanks for the honest input... Here's what I think

THIS IS SOUTH CAROLINA FOOTBALL
In the 71 seasons South Carolina has been affiliated with a conference, they have won that conference once...the ACC in 1969, with a 7-4 record. Since the Associated Press began ranking football teams in 1936, the ##### have finished in the Top 20 of the rankings only eight times in those 78 years. South Carolina has finished in the Top 10 of a major recognized poll...THREE times, in 2011, 2012 and 2013, the best seasons in their entire history with 11 wins. In 2011 the entire team received rings for going 11-2 and for finishing a tough, hard fought 5th place in the SEC. As they say in tee ball, everyone is a winner. This is South Carolina football.
The first year of Gamecock football was in 1892, South Carolina won its first bowl game 103 years later under BRAD SCOTT. In 122 seasons of football, South Carolina never participated in a pre-BCS major bowl (Rose, Fiesta, Orange, Cotton, and Sugar) never received a BCS invite during the BCS era and has yet to be chosen for the College Football Playoff or Access bowls. As South Carolina begins its 125th season of collegiate football, they have won 11 or more games in a single season only three times. In 124 seasons, South Carolina has won more games than it lost only 58 times. In 124 seasons, South Carolina has won more than 6 games in a season 25 times, and lost 6 or more 40 times. This is South Carolina football.
South Carolina has had 35 different head coaches in its storied tradition...only six of them have stayed longer than 5 seasons, while 23 of them have losing records. “It’s another Carolina Touchdown!?”…not quite. Of the 56 programs, which have played more than 1000 games all-time, only four have scored fewer points than South Carolina in their schools history. This is South Carolina football.
Since joining the SEC in 1992, South Carolina has had a winning record in the conference seven times in 25 years. Although South Carolina has yet to win the SEC, they have finished 0-8 in the conference twice. South Carolina has won six conference games in a season only three times. Only Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt have less 6 conference win seasons. This is South Carolina football.
Of the most memorable moments in their history is the fact that South Carolina went two consecutive seasons without winning one conference game. That’s right, not one. Carolina had an impressive string of 21 consecutive games with a loss snapped in 2000 by beating New Mexico State (and to let the rest of the country know what South Carolina football was all about, their fans commenced to tear down the goal-posts. No, I am not kidding). This is South Carolina football.
Since 1992, only three times has any non-probation member of the conference failed to win two or more games overall in a season…South Carolina has accomplished this feat three times, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Missouri once. Since 1992, only once has a conference member failed to win a game overall in a single season…you guessed it, South Carolina. South Carolina’s all-time record versus other current conference members is even more impressive: 4-10 vs Alabama, 9-13 vs Arkansas, 1-10-1 vs Auburn, 8-26-3 vs Florida, 18-49-2 vs Georgia, 17-11-1 vs Kentucky, 2-18-1 vs LSU, 7-8 vs Ole Miss, 9-7 vs Mississippi St., 8-25-2 vs Tennessee, 4-4 vs Missouri, 0-3 vs Texas A&M and 22-4 vs Vanderbilt. That’s correct, South Carolina leads the all-time series against 3 SEC Teams...Kentucky, Miss St. and Vanderbilt. This is South Carolina football.
But, the comparison of only 23 seasons in one conference does no justice to the tradition of South Carolina football. Comparing the ##### record versus FBS schools they have played 20 or more times: 42-66-4 vs Clemson, 17-24-3 vs Duke, 8-26-3 vs Florida, 18-49-2 vs Georgia, 28-26-4 vs NC State, 9-12 vs Georgia Tech, 11-17 vs Maryland, 19-34-4 vs North Carolina, 3-17 vs Florida State, 8-25-2 vs Tennessee, 21-12-1 vs Virginia, 17-11-1 vs Kentucky, 9-13 vs Arkansas, 2-18-1 vs LSU, 11-7-2 vs Virginia Tech, 22-4 Vanderbilt and 34-20-2 vs Wake Forest. That’s correct, South Carolina leads the all-time series against 6 of these 17 teams. This is South Carolina football.
Gamecock fans justify their horrible football record thru the strength of the SEC conference. But let’s look at the Gamecock’s record against the other big 5 conferences. South Carolina is 191-230-22 vs the ACC, 10-11-1 vs the Big 12, 17-26 vs the Big Ten and 1-1 vs Pac12. This is South Carolina Football.
2003 was the season that the ##### would rebuild and compete for a SEC title with their consecutive top 10 recruiting classes. Yet, they finished the season with another sub 500 performance. That season ended with a 63-17 thumping at home from archrival Clemson. This is South Carolina football.
In 2005 a new era began for the Gamecocks as they hire legendary coach Steve Spurrier. They opened up their wallets (and another grave plot in their cemetery of washed up head coaches) for what surely would be the coach to get them on the road to glory. After 6 seasons under coach Spurrier the Gamecocks have yet to win the SEC and have seen 45 players and coaches arrested. This is South Carolina football.
In 2007 the Gamecocks got off to a roaring 6-1 start after beating #12 Georgia and #8 Kentucky. Surely this would be the year that all the Gamecock faithful had been yearning for. It was finally the “Next Year”! But hold the presses. After beating #8 Kentucky and garnering a rank as high as #6 in the country, those Gamecocks lost to lowly Vanderbilt that started a Gamecock trademarked “fall from grace” to lose their last 5 games and finish 6-6 for the season. This is South Carolina football.
The very next season, in 2008, those South Carolina Gamecocks got right back up and at it again beginning the season with a 7-2 record. But again those BCS hopes were dashed by a 56-6 drumming by the Florida Gators. South Carolina would go on to lose their last 3 games of the season to finish 7-5. This is South Carolina football.
In 2009, with rival Clemson clinching the Atlantic Division in the ACC, the South Carolina Gamecocks had lost 3 straight and were sitting on a 6-5 record. When those Tigers came to town, those Gamecocks took advantage of turnovers and dampened the mood for the ACC Championship bound Tigers…. “Was this the end of the dreaded Chicken Curse?” the faithful coots prayed. But Ol’ Pitchfork Ben Tillman could only chuckle as UConn slammed the Gamecocks 20-7 in the Papa Johns.com bowl. This is South Carolina football.
In 2010 the Gamecocks got off to yet another historical start with a 9-3 record. They finally managed to win the SEC East division title. “This is it!” Gamecock fans exclaimed. “This is the moment that we have all been waiting for! The SEC Championship game in Atlanta!” The gamecocks, as 9-3 SEC East Champions, hoped to defeat Auburn in the SEC Championship game for their first conference title since winning the ACC in 1969! But that was not to be as Auburn pounded the Gamecocks 56-17 to set the largest margin of defeat in an SEC Championship game. The Gamecocks would go on to lose the Chick Fil A bowl to Florida State 26-17. This is South Carolina football.
As starting QB for South Carolina from 2009-2011, Stephen Garcia had managed 3 arrests, 5 different suspensions and never missed one minute of playing time. In the summer of 2011, the reason behind Garcia’s behavior and lack of punishment became crystal clear to all the critics. An incident occurred that explained everything to those wondering how a young man could get away with so much. With Garcia already serving an indefinite suspension for violation of team rules, on July 26th, 2011 Quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus was arrested in Greenville, SC after urinating on Main Street. G.A. was immediately suspended indefinitely by Coach Spurrier. Seven days later both G.A. and Garcia were reinstated to the team on the same day, just in time for the start of fall camp. This is South Carolina football.
The 2011 season brought yet another heart break for those poor Gamecocks. In 2011 the Gamecocks went 11-2 with a bowl win over Nebraska. However, they became the first collegiate football team in history to defeat all of their division rivals but still lose their division. They also became the first team in history to defeat all of their division rivals and finish 5th or worse in overall conference play. "But that's ok", they say. "We have our 5th place rings." This is South Carolina football.
In 2012, the Fighting Gamecocks once again beat the SEC East division winner only to be left out of the SECCG once again. This is South Carolina Football.
2013 started out with a great optimism for Gamecock nation but was brought to reality quickly after a loss to UGA, who lost to Clemson the week before. Jadeveon Clowney, the best football player who ever lived, sandbagged his way to a mediocre season and NFL draft as he blames his 15 different high school injuries on his lack of production. He is made fun of on national TV. When things couldn’t get any worse, SC loses to a pathetic Tennessee team on a last minute field goal. The up and down season drove Coach Spurrier to drink as he filmed a coaches show drunk. The Gamecocks, once again defeating the eventual SEC East Champion, were left out of a trip to Atlanta. Meanwhile, rival Clemson became the first and only team from the state of SC to play in and win a BCS game. This is South Carolina Football.
The 2014 season, as usual in Columbia, began with the gamecocks being August Pre-season National Champions. The Gamecocks were #9 in preseason polls and picked to win the SEC east by most and the SEC Championship by some. A great optimism surrounded the first game in which SC faced Texas A&M. The game was at home and was the inaugural game to introduce the much anticipated SEC Network. The Gamecocks were heavily favored and many didn’t give the Aggies a chance. That optimism soon turned to despair as SC allowed the first year Texas A&M QB to break passing yard records and gave up 680 total yards. The Gamecocks were embarrassed on national TV in front of millions 52-28. This is South Carolina Football.
The Gamecocks, still delusional as could be went on to beat a tough ECU and squeaked out a win against UGA. It was now clear that the Texas A&M game was a fluke. The Gamecocks would surely run the table and be included in the 2014 playoffs. That was not to be. The Gamecocks went on to lose the next 4 out of 6 games, including juggernaut Kentucky. The Gamecocks would give up several big leads late in the 4th quarter on the way to a 4-5 record. This is South Carolina Football.
But all was not lost. The Gamecocks, having defeated a tough 5-3 Florida in OT, still had Clemson to play. And the Gamecocks just knew their streak of 5 wins over the Tigers would go to 6 wins in 2014. After all, there was just no way the over rated defense of Clemson would beat the best offense in SC history. And surely struggling QB Cole Stoudt or hurt freshman phenom Deshaun Watson would never be able to score enough points. SC was destined to finish 7-5 and make it to a decent bowl game.
Unfortunately for the feathered kind, they were sorely mistaken. Clemson QB Deshaun Watson, playing with a torn ACL, became the first Clemson true freshman to beat the gamecocks passing for 269 yards, 2 TDs and rushing for 2 more. Three different Clemson freshman had break out numbers against the Gamecocks, including a record setting day by Artavis Scott. No, the gamecocks didn’t run their streak to 6 but they did achieve 6 in a different way; a 6-6 record, even with the best offense in SC history. This is South Carolina Football.
When 2015 rolled around the best coach in Gamecock history, Steve Spurrier, received a huge raise for the great accomplishment of going 6-6. The Gamecocks hung an 85 foot banner on their stadium in honor of the coach who would never let them down. After 6 games into the 2015 season Spurrier quit after a 2-4 record. The Gamecocks would go on to win one more game, losing to the Citadel and the 2nd in a row to Clemson on the way to a 3-9 record. Meanwhile, arch rival Clemson punched their ticket to their second national championship game. This is South Carolina football.
With a head start in the coaching search over all other teams looking for a skipper, surely the Gamecocks would land a top Head Coach to take the helm of their sinking ship for the 2016 season. Instead, they botched the opportunity and landed one of the most under-achieving head coaches on the market in Will Muschamp. It seems the two were destined for one another. Winning 4 of the 5 games leading up to the Clemson game and holding a 6-4 record, the Gamecocks were sure they could take down the 10-1 Tigers and ruin their playoff hopes. They were about to achieve 7 wins for the first time in 3 years. Not so fast…….The Gamecocks lost to the Tigers in the second largest margin of loss in series history. QB Jake Bentley says “Clemson wasn’t that much better if at all”. Clemson went on to face Alabama in the National Championship with Gamecock fans cheering the Tide to win them a National Championship (because that’s the only way they can win one. But the Gamecocks lost again as Clemson won its second National title. Clemson has now won more National Titles than the Gamecocks have won conferences. This is South Carolina football.
The 2016 season brought the emergence of young talent to the Gamecock offense and 2017 looks bright. QB Jake Bentley is poised to win the Heisman and Rico Dowdle looks to vie for the top of SEC rushing ranks. Fans are fired up and ready to fight as a brawl breaks out at tailgates just before the Kentucky game. That proved to be just the first time that night that the Gamecocks would get beat as they fell to the Wildcats, dousing all hopes of improvement in 2017. This is South Carolina Football.
This should be updated to show Clemson has won 7 in a row, SCU has another coach, and they still suck.

Venables is a different cat, has a son that plays a lot (Tyler) and is telling recruits he isn't leaving. Do I think he should take it and it is an amazing job, I do, OU is a top 5 job of all time in CFB, I think it's closer to 50/50 and won't be "shocked" either way. Will be disappointed if we lose him but as I said, he's a different kind of dude that seems to be driven by differnt things than most to be happy.

Big probs that they don’t even realize yet, until they try to recruit in the SEC and start seasons 1-3 and get routinely curb stomped by Kiffin and other middle dwelling SEC teams regularly.

Lmfao the word was it was done and going to be announced days ago, can’t wait to come back to this post in a couple of days. Btw even if y’all got BV nothing is going to prevent that program from turning into dog s h I t, losing all of your talent and can’t handle ACC defense let alone any SEC defense. Anyway enjoy rooting for that dumpster fire

My thoughts...
Dec 2, 2021, 12:50 PM
|
|
First off, I don't know what BV will do.
But, if it were me, OU would be the last place I'd want to go. He was basically given a demotion with Bob Stoops brought his brother in as co-defensive coordinator to "help out with the defense." And you don't have to be a Google scientist to bring up articles and fan message board posts that are practically begging for BV to move on. His move to Clemson was a direct reaction to the slap in the face he was given by Stoops.
Secondly, OU is a dumpster fire right now. It seems like every 4 hours you guys are losing a 4* or 5* recruit. Lincoln Riley gave it to OU GOOD and HARD. Whoever comes in next will have 3-4 years of trying to rebuild only to get fired when they finish their 3rd years 18-18.
No thank you. I wouldn't touch OU no matter how much money they threw my way. Finally, Riley didn't leave on a lark. There's a story there and we'll eventually find out what it is.
Good luck getting bowl eligible once you guys are in the SEC.

I would think Shane Beamer is up there on the list as well considering he was an asst. Head coach at the school last year.

Nah, you came over here with with a backhanded slap calling it peace. We don't take kind to such around here. It is best you leave with this and make it clear to all your people: Venables gets all the last laughs at Little Game Bob and his sides show.

It never ceases to amaze me how much trouble the coots will go to in order to try and feel better about their lousy program by trying to bring down ours. When we won our first National Championship I was in college, and I remember coots I knew saying “you don’t have a chance, they play big-boy football at Nebraska.” We saw how that went . But - and I kid you not - one coot fan in my parents neighborhood had “go Nebraska” “go cornhuskers” signs in his yard. I’ve never given two sh**s enough about the coots to go to the trouble of doing something like that. But then again, they never play for anything meaningful anyway.

I'm a resident sooner on the board. I grew up in Powdersville, South Carolina, but my roots are from Midwest City, Oklahoma. My love of Clemson is only trumped by my love of OU. I think I would be excited with a Veneables hire but do not know if it will happen. He is as much Clemson as Dabo is. I think OUs new coach is coaching this weekend in some capacity. With the way the team is losing commits if it was Venable's it would have been announced by now.

I think what you fail to realize is that we have the money and facilities to basically pick whoever we want if Dabo decided against going in house. We may lose a few recruits, but it wouldn’t be a sky is falling scenario like it is in Norman right now. Realistically it will take 3-4 seasons to rebuild Oklahoma after all of the offensive talent hitting the portal.

Enjoy life going forward with Mark Stoops battling the other middle-of the-pack SEC teams for meaningless 2nd and 3rd tier bowl games in lovely destinations like Shreveport, Memphis, and Birmingham.
At least OU will be well paid for achieving sustained mediocrity.

“y’all better start preparing for the loss of Venables & hope it doesn’t obliterate half of your 23 recruiting class.”
I think your definition of “come in peace” is a little different than others people’s definition.

Because OU "insiders" have said a deal is done with Venables, then it was Matt Rhule yesterday, then they were announcing the coach at the basketball game last night. Nobody has their information straight.

You should find a hobby other than sports, journalism, prognostication. Brent Venables is not going to OU until 2035 when he and I and a bunch of us going to come over there and beat y’all like a rented mule. Have youz guys taken a look at our 2034 recruiting class? Y’all are toast!

We've heard tonight is the night this whole week already lol, at this point its just noise. BV has been recruiting with Dabo all week long. OU Insiders seem just as loss as anyone predicting the same thing every day....and being nothing but wrong....every day! It's starting to be more comical than anything. But if BV doesn't pull the plug by Sunday, I think yall will be looking elsewhere.

Talk talk talk... Sounds like someone has sour grapes because their coach left. Some people actually have integrity... I think BV is one of them. If he does go coach somewhere else, I expect he will leave on good terms.

Brent Venables will retire as DC of the Clemson Tigers if given the chance. He does what he should and plays the game to get bumps in pay. He’s not head coach material but he is the best coordinator in the business on either side of the ball.

I think that u read somewhere that there was going to be no drop off from TL to DJ, I read that Clemson was cycling out, I read toilet paper was in great demand during the hayday of COVID. See you can't believe everything you see in the paper! With offensive problems this year, I am happy at 10 and 3.

You had him as an assistant coach and treated him like dirt. He has a great setup right now. If he desires to be a head coach, he will go to a different school. Your state is ugly and your university is broke. Your admin micromanages and CBV does not have to put up with that. We appreciate him here . You all had your chance and blew it.

They choose Clemson for a reason. He may get a couple, but not many. Not sure we go head to head on a ton of recruits.
Plus, Dabo is the proven head coach and recruiter.
PLUS WE OWN OU!!!! And will continue to. How does it feel to be owned by lil ole Clemson.

I can't imagine a very, very successful DC like BV taking a job for money that he doesn't really need and injecting himself in an absulute dumpster fire like OU. I doubt him or anyone else can get that program turned around fast enough to keep that bunch of trigger happy boosters satisfied and not get themselves fired in 3 years. Why would he leave a eutopian job like he has to go step in a big pile of cow crap?
