I count Venables as a Bill Synder / Bob Stoops protege

Oct 5, 2023, 12:51 PM

He was there from 1993-2011 - 18 years.

Looking at Dabo's tree:

Chad Morris HC record - 18-40 (0.310)
Jeff Scott HC record - 4-26 (0.133)
Tony Elliott HC record - 3-12 (0.200)

Why has it gone so badly for Dabo's proteges ?

Probably multiple answers for this one but I think the

biggest one is lack of recruiting. They weren't able to get the jimmies and joes.

Should make one very happy to keep Dabo around. He is the glue.

I cannot imagine an Ed Orgeron situation where his OC makes or breaks him.

That seems "convenient"...

OU fans were happy to see BV go, when Dabo hired him and a lot of Clemson fans balked at the hire.

____
"In the last ten years, I’ve grown more as a coach, as a man, as a husband, as a father, as a dad to my girls, as a believer, all those areas that from a holistic standpoint are incredibly important," Venables said.

Venables came to Clemson following the 2011 season after spending more than a decade in Norman as an assistant under former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops. While it was a lateral move, the transition was more difficult than Venables was expecting.

Chad Morris should have stayed at SMU

Arkansas is a tough job, as they have little in state talent. With SMU joining the ACC and over 100 mil in donor money flowing in in their first week in the ACC, SMU is now the much better job. Texas talent and big time Texas oil money

The national media jumped all over BV in his first year. He lost the best QB in college football and five other players (which were in their top ten overall). I hope they beat Texas tomorrow and shuts them all up.

BV was here twice as long as the Chad

Just sayin.

Also, BV went to a traditional winning program. 939–338–53, national titles 7

The Chad: SMU 517–553–54, national titles, 0.

Jeff Scott, USF 144-137, national titles, 0.

Tony Elliott, UVA, 599-607-37, national tiles, 0.

You will recall BV was the front runner for other HC jobs and turned them down until a well established contender job came open. None of the other three stepped into that level of program.

Look at the jobs they have taken...they were all bad***
