It's perception and brand. FSU is seen as a program who

contends for a national title every year while we eventually pull a Clemson. As a result, they are also seen as a better brand than Clemson.
That is apparently how ESPN sees it as they fail to acknowledge reality.

Unfortunately, the head to head results aren't a determination in this. It's about name brand. As much as I love CU and think we have a good nambrand, FSU & ND are bigger names on the national stage, even though neither has done much in the last few years.

If you are planning a future cable network the state population matters more than local markets. Cable companies are divided by states. Thats the difference in footprints and markets and its the only thing that puts clemson on the bubble for an invite. Our state doesnt have the number of cable subscribers as the states around us. If it had to do with ratings clemson would be a sure thing. In my opinion clemson will get in anyways.

recruiting, than it is to the TV markets though. I could be wrong, but no one can prove it! I understand FSU is more marketable, even if they are on a 7 year slide, I just don't see ND being more lucrative right now when they are tied to NBC through 2015. A lot can happen in 4 years (4 football seasons)!

expansion are idiots. They kept saying it's all about "matchups" blah, blah, blah. You couldn't reason with those people. They were trying to convince themselves, I guess, that somehow we'd end up in the SEC. But they were not in tune with reality.

Secondly, ND is locked into NBC for (I think) 3 more years...Even if they are a choice, it doesn't allow for a FB expansion for the Big XII. Notice they were talking about non-FB sports with regards to ND! So if B12 takes FSU and ND w/o FB they would still not qualify for a championship game. Did I mention Joe Schad is a ######?

Market = number of households w/cable or satellite = $$/household at the rate negotiated w/ESPN or whoever buys the rights. It doesn't matter whether these households even watch the game, they still pay for it. It's a ton of money and it's the only thing that matters...

This is why the SEC expands only outside their existing footprint - add more households = add more $$$.

I'm glad someone else actually understands this... as long as you pay your bill for dish/cable, ESPN gets the money even if you only watch Lifetime and OWN all day long!

exactly. espn doesnt care what you watch as long as you subscribe. now ratings matter somewhat for advertising but subscriptions is where the money id. espn is national though so they are already on tv sets. so to them the footprint can only grow so much. if the sec forms a network it will be regional so they need to get in as many states as possible. in fact, if espn had its pick they would probably love clemsons ratings since they cant add many more subscriptions. for a sec network though it makes no sense to double down in a state, especially a small state. the big 12 though could add every cable subscriber in sc by taking clemson.

Big 12 has two national programs. With the addition of FSU it would be three. People will watch. Plus FSU would give Big 12 both Texas and Florida recruiting hotbeds, much like another conference.
