Maryland leaves the ACC w/ 9 football championships..

Dec 19, 2012, 12:40 PM

.. I have $500 that says in 20 years they still haven't won the B1G.

P.S. Maryland, you're welcome for those titles in the '80s.

to me Md is one of those teams that is either really good or really awful. there never seemed much in between with them. some of Claiborne's and Ross' teams were as good as anyones though

Very true; if it wasn't for Bias, would Ross have stayed??***

I actually think they could do it pretty soon

Dec 19, 2012, 12:46 PM

the Big 10 was just terrible this year, probably even worse than the ACC considering Ohio State was ineligible (and does anybody think they would've gone undefeated in any other conference?). If they find an offense, they'll be very competitive in the Big 10 very soon.

Seriously cam...

Maryland couldn't beat Nebraska, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, or Wisconsin. They will consistently lose at least 5/6 of those games, most likely all 6. They will struggle with Northwestern and Purdue. They will sit with Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, & Illinois and will never come close to competing.

if they have competed in the ACC, they can compete there

Dec 19, 2012, 4:31 PM

Heck, just this year they beat a team that beat PSU (UVa). In terms of pure potential, they should at least be as good as the Michigan States and Wisconsins of the world. It's not like they've only won 3 or 4 games the last 6 years in a row, like Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota. Purdue and Northestern are normally awful, too. The only programs in that conference with more football history than Maryland are Ohio State, Nebraska, PSU, and Michigan. They won't be as good as those teams every year, but every once in a while they'll compete.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So, best case scenario, they make a run at 5th place every

couple of years?

Not that the B1G is twice the football conference the ACC is

Dec 19, 2012, 4:57 PM [ in reply to if they have competed in the ACC, they can compete there ]

but they definitely add at least 2 more in-conference losses to Maryland's schedule if they played everybody in one season. PSU, OSU, Neb., Michigan, Mich. St., Wisc., Northwestern is suddenly strong.. MAYBE a win out of those 7 n' we all know Maryland is not guaranteed to beat anybody on a football field.

Adios, Big TErrapiNS! Welcome aboard, Cards!

all Maryland accomplished was getting more money and ...

allowing much larger programs with a bigger and better brand into their recruiting terrority.

All the B1G accomplished was watering down their brand even more .....

ACC won out in this deal ...... Good Riddance!

Amen.... good riddance.....***

I don't think it'll be happening anytime soon. There are bigger problems down there than most people realize. And jumping conferences--money or no money--won't fix them.

Sadly, it doesn't matter if they win, they will be
