How many people under the age of 50 still get a newspaper?

Jul 25, 2012, 6:06 PM

Native Greenvillian and stopped my subscription years ago, was buying it for the sports coverage and realized the internet was a better source. Print media's option is to offer depth and detail or a tangible keepsake from a historic event. G News future is a publisher of weekly magazines.

I get the WSJ, but only because I keep getting free subscriptions.

Here is a tip to get the Greenville news for cheap......

Sign up to only get the paper on weekends or any other package that isnt every day. Dont let them sign you up for auto pay. Make the send you a bill to pay. After a month or so they will call and ask you if you want to receive the paper everyday for the rest of your subscription. My family used to do it all the time but when we signed up for autopay it stopped. BTW we get the paper only on weekends.

HA! This guy at my work, a fellow clemson fan, is always reading the paper in the AM and telling me, Oh did you know we got this recruit or that recruit...and I always know 1 to 2 days before he reads it...LOL he will never "out scoop" me on Clemson!

Does it count if I stopped getting a daily paper waaayyy back when I was under 50? Your question leads me to beleive that you must be one of the enlightened young people in our world.I do have one small question for you. How old do you think the people are now that invented computers, applications, networks, the internet, etc? Although the younger generation may now be inventing cool apps and making great use of the tools that have been laid before them, don't forget to acknowledge those that built the roads that you ride on.

Well, I'm definitely not younger than 50, so I'll admit

there still remains something special enjoying my cup of coffee while reading the paper early in the morning...without hearing a blaring TV, radio or hammering away at a keyboard or stroking an I-pad. While the news may not be as fresh as from other sources, most of the time it's fresh enough for me, and if important enough of an event, I can always save the paper for a future generation. Even to this day I enjoy reexploring my old chest, which is full of historic papers I have saved for over 60 years! Quite interesting rereads!
