How many more legacy scholarships?

Jan 18, 2016, 11:00 AM

How many now 4 - 5?

Re: How many more legacy scholarships?

As many as Dabo deems necessary to keep us in the top two teams nationally.

BTW CTB did not give legacy scholarships and we did not win a single ACC title because of it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We should have used all scholies on legacies then

Jan 18, 2016, 10:00 PM

then we have reservations to the college football playoff for the next 4yrs. Inane logic, there is no positive correlation between team's success and legacy scholarships.

Re: We should have used all scholies on legacies then

The Clemson Family is what sets us apart from the rest of college football. To act like that isn't a positive is to ignore what makes Clemson special because it isn't tangible. If you can't understand that then you don't know what it means to be a Clemson Tiger.

This is Clemson. We take care of family.

Keep doing what you're doing Dabo. It's obviously working.

That was easy

Re: Name one that is a bad commitment to take.***

Jan 18, 2016, 3:32 PM

Davis Twins: Both started January 2015 as greyshirts.
Amir Trapp: 3* recruit, enrolled July 2015.
Dawkins: 2* CB, hasn't enrolled.
Greenlee: Tore ACL in 2014.

Jan 18, 2016, 3:43 PM

And they are all bad takes. If you change the last names none are at Clemson

Davis Twins SLOW LB

Amir Trapp 5'7 DB Oh Joy

Dawkins 5'7 DB Why have one when you can have two ?

Greenlee Came in as a LB and now plays TE . This speaks for itself.

His Composite average is still 2.

Dawkins Jr. has a 247Sports rating of 81, making him a 3-star prospect.

Not 5'9" as stated in the profile, ergo B Dawk Jr is still growing, he gets 2 more inches, he's effective, plus keeps his Father around the program.

Ill admit that i was a little skeptical of dabo doing that

Jan 18, 2016, 12:09 PM

At first but so far it hasn't been a problem. As long as dabo keeps doing what he's doing, he can offer a scholarship to ever the heck he wants. Obviously Dabo knows what he's doing.

I tend to think our coaching and recruiting staff know what they are doing. I don't think any of them would do anything to diminish the quality of student athletes we have on our team. Since they have the ability to size up a player up on their potential I have never seen any reason to take recruiting responsibilities away from them and assign it to the fans. I certainly don't feel any recruit cost us the NC. Go Tigers ALLIN

Re: How many more legacy scholarships?

I can only speak on the Davis kids having seen them play a little this year. Are they ever going to be starters? Maybe not, insert likely if you wish. Can they develop and make contributions in a year or two, provide depth? Absolutely. What I saw watching them was guys who were fundamentally sound, we're usually in a good position and made tackles. Yeah it was against Wofford and App St the last I recall seeing them on defense, but all in all, they looked ok. Just like a fairly large % of your scholarship athletes. For every CJ, Watson, Watkins Andy school gets there are 3 more who provide roster depth. As far as Dawkins, the only other one I could begin to comment on not having seen the rest. With his dad schooling him up this far, I can state that I feel he will l ow the game, and be well prepared. The rest comes down to talent, time will tell there, but I think B Dawk has earned a bit of love from us to give it a shot. Just my .2 cents.

Re: How many more legacy scholarships?

Jan 19, 2016, 1:53 AM

Think about it from a recruiting standpoint. We get 2 elite linebackers this year b/c we took the twins instead of two other high 3 or low 4 stars. I'm sure those 5 stars got to meet with the legacy x NFL players who can fill them in on the tricks of the trade when it comes to their position. Dabo has strengths and weaknesses but roster management and recruiting are his definite strengths. Look at Sumlin, Meyer had QB issues, Saban has a 4 or 5 star transfer out every other month.
