What was the expectations of our baseball team

preseason and what are our expectations at this point?
What would need to be accomplished for Jack to keep his job and what would need to happen for him to loose it for sure?
Just curious where some draw the line.

For me, he keeps his job if he wins the ACC tournament or gets us to Omaha. Those are tough standards but my real standards were that we do one of those 2 in three years starting with 2012, he has whiffed so far and this is the last year. I would like to point out that he has not even been close.

And now word is SCar coaches are opening a training facility out in Lexington SC area to try to lock down the state's top youth players, essentially cornering the market on recruiting. It is being backed financially by coot investors and coaches, even has their logo in it. I don't think Jack will stand a chance when that happens, he barely is afloat now.

I had pretty high expectations this year

We should be a better overall team by this point in the season. Had some new faces like Okey stepping into front line roles, but they have done a very good job.
We've had plenty of chances to get those marquee series wins against opponents with a pulse, but we've really stunk it up this year.
I wasn't ready to start talking hot seat for Jack last year, but I think a failure to reach supers this year would mean time is running out.

so it should be no surprise that struggles have occurred throughout the season. Oh, but I forgot your coot buddies are giving you grief and you can't take it.

We only lost one starter and Tyler Slayton has been better overall than Brittle. Two elite pitchers and a highly regarded third starter, plus a supposedly deep bullpen should have been our year to shine. I compare this team to Dabo going 6-7 in the fall.

I don't want Lecroy. It would suck to see anybody who has ever been associated with Jack, be hired.

From the team's own mouths

http://www.orangeandwhite.com/news/2014/feb/13/clemsons-aim-omaha-starts-weekend/
Opening Day starter Gossett on expectations: "Omaha. It's got be. It's been our goal since day one obviously. We haven't done it the past three years. Coach Leggett has never had a team go more than four years without going to Omaha. So, who are we to start messing that tradition up?"
http://www.orangeandwhite.com/news/2014/jan/30/tigers-friday-night-guy-says-its-time-trip-omaha/
“We didn’t go to Omaha for three years in a row, and every four years, at least, under Coach (Jack) Leggett, Clemson has been to Omaha,” said Gossett. “So that’s a little more incentive, and we can’t be that one team that didn’t go to Omaha. It’s been long enough. I’ve never been, and I don’t think anybody on the team has been, so now it’s time. It’s time to go, it’s time to win.
“Anything less than a National Championship is a disappointment. Two years in a row to go down to Columbia and lose out in the regional, is an obvious disappointment. So this year, we’re definitely looking to go to Omaha and win it. As is everyone else, though I think that this year we have a real chance.”

Leggett says the experience isn't worth much if they didn't improve over the offseason, and Boulware believes they have done just that.
"I think it's going to be a much more mature offense," he said. "We'll know how to execute when the time is needed. It's not even that we struggled last year. It was timely hitting and this year I don't think we'll have a problem with that. (We'll) have a better approach.
"I think it's going to be a really good offensive team – not to mention we'll have awesome pitching too. Our offense is going to really take us to the next level."

I have been vocal defending the program for 2-3 years

My key argument has been that this team is cyclical and 2014 should be the next peak of the cycle. The team in 2012 was indeed young and 2013 should not have been as high expectations as some had. That said, this year was set up to be significantly improved and the fact that we are not significantly better is a problem. I have said repeatedly for 3 years that I will eat my crow if we are not better by 2014. Well, I'm looking at it and trying to prepare myself at this point. I'm still hoping I won't have to.
