Has anyone (or their offspring) played FCS football?

I'm curious how it compares to playing at a power 5 school. Undefeated South Dakota State looks like they could hang with many mid-tier power 5 programs.

I did. The starting lineup is actually fairly close to some FBS schools. It's after that it starts dropping off dramatically. There's also big differences in FCS to FCS. Some schools we played I swear had better individual athletes at places than some bigger schools we played. I mean look when they transfer. You often times can't tell they didn't play FBS to start.

My guess would be that the players are a little slower or have measurables issues that kept them from Division 1.

They could also be in areas that don't get recruited heavily because of lack of power 5 schools in the area. That would explain Montana and South Dakota.

SD State knocked off a decent K-State team on the road a few years back.

Not my offspring, but my brother’s friend played at Campbell after transferring from Wake Forest. He said that there wasn’t that much difference between playing James Madison (when they were still FCS) & playing Troy. I agree with your sentiment that SDSU looks like they could compete with mid-tier FBS teams.

If you try hard enough, you can hang with anyone. Football is 95% mental, 5% physical once you truly understand the game. Hunter Renfrow gets it
