I am looking to invest in a new king mattress. My current mattress which is 7 years old and is worn out and starting to hurt my back and shoulders. I plan of spending between $1500-2000 on a new king mattress. Does anyone have recommendations for around that price?

If you are in the Greenville area, go to Engineered Sleep on 291 across from Krispy Kreme donuts. They will make you a pocketed coil mattress to your liking. Good Clemson people. They manufacture mattresses for a number of companies. They just moved to new building so disregard the looks of the building.

I spent that and then some on a purple mattress with the adjustable base. Best money ever spent.

Most decent mattresses start at $1500 from what I've seen. I was looking at a purple mattress that was $6000.

It’s just good sense to invest money into things that separate you from the ground.
Shoes. Tires. Mattresses. Couches. Office chairs.
Rarely is a well researched investment in these commodities poorly spent.

I recommend the sleep number bed. It is probably a little more expensive but we have had ours now for probably 10 years or so. I honestly don’t remember what we paid for it. You can adjust the firmness of each side independently if you a your wife like different firmness from a mattress. We’ve been very happy with ours.

If I purchase a sleep number adjustable mattress, does it come with a base? Does the base work within my existing headboard and footboard?

Yes. You can buy any combination of mattress, base, and headboard/footboard. When we bought ours we got the mattress and base and used our existing frame. When we moved we bought new bedroom furniture and it was no problem putting it on the new headboard and footboard.

A Sleep Number is the only way to go, in my opinion!

Mine is 25 years old, and still good as new! What other mattress can you say that about. And you can adjust it anywhere from soft to extra firm...plus, you can adjust each side independent of the other. If your spouse prefers a different firmness than you, not a problem! Plus, if you get ready to move, you don't have a two hundred pound mattress to deal with!
You couldn't talk me into anything else!

But sleep mattresses are nothing more than an air mattress - sorry but I will not sleep on an air mattress!

Go online and research Saatva Mattress. It's a really good mattress with a really good guarantee. Speaking from experience it's the best mattress that I've ever owned, but do the research and decide for yourself. Good luck

A pocketed coil mattress is better than a foam mattress. Check out Beauty-rest. It's what Engineered Sleep can make.
