Time to take a brief break from football: This month’s Golf Magazine lists their top 100 courses world wide. Wondering where you might have played. Here are mine: St Andrews Old Course .. twice Turnberry … twice Carnoustie .. twice Kiawah Ocean Course…several times Prestwick…twice Royal Troon Kingsbarns Whistling Straits, Straits
Favorite is old Course followed by Turnberry. And yours……?

I’ll live vicariously through my dad who I think has an incredible resume of courses played in the US. I don’t have the list so not sure if top 100 or not.
Augusta National Ocean Course Sawgrass Pinehurst #2 The Homestead Whistling Straights Firestone Pebble Beach Walker Course 😉 Blackwolf Run

I played Kingsbarns the year it opened....2000. Found it interesting that it was just down the road from St Andrews, was a new course, and designed by an American.

Yes, it was designed by Kyle Phillips. What is amazing about the course, there were no natural features there when he started. He had to create everything and haul in material and most of the sand had long before been hauled off for other purposes. He did a fantastic job.

Kiawah Ocean Bandon Dunes Pacific Dunes All the courses at Bandon Bethpage Black
I liked Pacific Dunes the most, but Kiawah was beautiful as well. Both were very windy and were tough.

I am extremely jealous... That's quite a list!
I have played TPC Sawgrass, Palmetto, Augusta CC (extremely nice private course) and the Augusta National. I'm sure you can guess which one was my favorite.
I'm only 28, and hope to have a list as good as yours one day!

I might trade some of mine for Augusta National. Mine are mostly 2 different golf trips to Scotland.

Too lazy to look up top 100, but guess a few of these are included:
Pebble Beach Cypress Point Spyglass Sand Hills Sahalee (Seattle) Erin Hills (US Open Course) Chambers Bay (US Open Course) Torrey Pines Los Angeles Country Club The Valley Club (Santa Barbara) Pasatiempo The Champions Club (Houston) Woodlands (Houston) Firethorn (Lincoln) Pinehurst #2 (and all of them) CC of North Carolina Seminole TPC Sawgrass Peachtree (Atl.) East Lake (Atl) Yeaman's Hall (played it with Arnie) Kiawah Ocean Course CC of Charleston Bethpage Black Maidstone The National Golf Links Baltusrol Shinnicock Hills Newport CC Wanamoisset (Providence) Pine Valley Merion Aronimink Fox Chapel Oakmont The Mid Ocean Club (Bermuda) Turnberry St. Andrews Carnoustie Prestwick Kingsbarns Muirfield (Scotland) Muirfield (Columbus ..... played it with Nicklaus) The Golf Club (Columbus) Double Eagle (Columbus) Royal Dornoch North Berwick Nairn Cruden Bay Royal Portrush Royal County Down Bally Bunion Lahinch Portmarnock Adare Manor Killarney Royal St. George Sunningdale Royal Birkdale Royal Lytham and St. Annes Royal Liverpool Wentworth
and a few more that I can't remember!
There are so many great courses, it is ridiculous to try and create a "top 100 list". The Golf Digest Top 100 in the World is a pure joke, as I have played many courses better than the top 100. The category ought to be "The Top 100 pieces of land that golf courses were built on that the architect did not screw up".

It is ..... sort of a collaboration between Bobby Jones, the golfer and Robert Trent Jones, the architect.

You know, that is not as ridiculous as you think. I never refer to a golf course as a "goat track", as the members or golfers at their course should love their course just as much as members of the Augusta National. Who am I to say their course is a goat track? If people enjoy their course, then it's good enough for me.
I once visited a little course, built by farmers, in the Scotland Neck area of North Carolina. The "clubhouse" was built out of concrete blocks and it looked like the swimming pool was built about the same way. The golfers on the course were playing in overalls, blue jeans, tee shirts, etc. and just having a great time. No irrigation, except around greens, and it was a manual system that the pro/superintendent/manager (all one person) had to go to each green to cut the water on. I would have been proud to been a member there!

I can’t think of anything special. Played numerous courses mostly around the beach area. Lot of favorites down that way for me personally. Do want to play Pinehurst, Quail Hollow and the Ocean Course at Kiawah.

The first time I played in mid 90’s at Carnoustie the start house was a little shack just off the first tee. The starter left at about 5 or 5:30 so the course was ope to anyone who showed up. Several years later I returned and had THE room in the hotel overlooking the 1st tee and 18th green. Trip of a life time.

I’ve only played mostly local courses and I am horrible, so I have nothing really to add here…except an interesting story (I think at least).
I’m just a casual golfer and in my 30’s was only familiar with the more famous US courses (Augusta, Pinehurst, etc…) and only because I had some work friends who played a lot and would talk golf on Monday mornings.
Anyway…I traveled to Prestwick, Scotland with a client back around 2006ish. He wasn’t a big golfer either…we were there to check out one of their manufacturing plants in Prestwick. So, neither of us could really appreciate where we were.
We stayed at Lochgreen House and before dinner the first night, I walked down a little gravel walkway towards the road. I noticed there was a golf course across the street…so I walked down to the edge of the road and watched a few guys play the hole by the road. Because I was accustomed to courses in the US that were always so neatly manicured and lush, I thought to myself, ‘What a goat track’…a term I had heard my buddies say a few times.
Turns out it was Royal Troon…
