FL Senator Scotts Letter & ACC Ramifications

As I believe the other thread missed the mark, I’ll start fresh.

I’m not a lawyer but in my opinion this is why Rick Scott’s letter requesting transparency matters. If it can be proved through their communications that ESPN colluded with an “impartial” committee to favorite a program, in which it costs another program with contractual bounds significant financial damages, there may be a legal case for FSU to get out of the conference based on a breach of contract involving GOR deal between the ACC & ESPN.

A Senator could potentially have some merit here as it affects the potential for millions in damages to a state university as well as constituents.

A lawyer friend provided some more context to my thoughts:
Filing a lawsuit would open up subpoena power...CFP will claim trade secret/work product as a greater privacy concern but a judge could easily overrule that and force production of evidence. May not make it's way to the public but could still prove the case and the financial repercussions it caused on FSU and the ACC.

To raise some eyebrows, there is a picture making the rounds of Herbstreit’s set showing the helmets of only the 4 teams selected, prior to the announcement. The helmets had reportedly been different days before. There are also posts reporting that betting lines for the 4 teams were significantly changed to an irrational degree just prior to the announcement. Just some anecdotal tidbits I’ve seen floating around.

Slim chance anything comes of it as these things go but any potential crack in the GOR armor should be examined.

I hope the CFB Playoff Committee and ESPN get NAILED TO THE CROSS!!!***

out of an in-house NIL collective takes traction, the GOR will have to be broken anyways to allow those schools that choose go to this new division to do so.

Both would take about the same time frame…years and years.

Thanks for explaining that in more depth and if there is truth to the rumor about herbstreit with the helmets and a few other shady things , we deserve answers

I've seen congressional committees for years "investigate" things (both parties) and claim they have found "the smoking gun" when in reality all they are doing is grandstanding.

Short of someone on the committee making a public statement, "We were each given 100K by ESPN if we voted for Alabama to get into the playoffs" and then producing a video of cash actually changing hands nothing Rick Scott says or does will have any consequence, other than maybe helping him get re-elected.

Don't the TV producers get the info ahead of time, if only slightly, to build

the graphics that are simultaneously put on the screen? If that is done, it'd mean they'd have the info for the helmets (if this info is really a thing).

That certainly could be the case but it doesn't advance the conspiracy narrative, so it can't be true.

Would it have to be that blatant though? Would a rogue text from an ESPN employee to a committee member indicating an SEC team must be included for media purposes not open up Pandora’s box?

Virtually no chance of course but interesting discussion of something that must happen (exit strategy) for Clemson and FSU to be viable contenders going forward IMO.

this is complete nonsense.

Look at the CFP selection committee principles as published in 2012. They carried out their mandate.

You’re entitled to believe it’s nonsense but the fact of the matter is a senator is requesting communications. That letter is much deeper and more pointed than a fan’s gripe. My point is if some how 1 communication favoring a conference was turned up, even meant in jest, it could open up a legal route off this sinking ship, as far-fetched as that may be.

This bias should have been brought to Congress 10-15 years ago.
