Auburn names starting OL....

Aug 26, 2012, 10:43 PM

And we thought we were young.

Per al.com:

AUBURN, Alabama -– Auburn coach Gene Chizik swiftly moved past the suspension of center Reese Dismukes on Sunday by naming his starting offensive line –- a line that will include two tackles who have never played in a college game and a center who played one game at the position last year.

Chizik said sophomore Tunde Fariyike would replace Dismukes, who was suspended Saturday following an arrest for public intoxication. The new tackles are redshirt freshman Greg Robinson and true freshman Avery Young. The guards are John Sullen and Chad Slade.

Auburn usually announces its depth charts on Tuesdays. Not this week. Chizik said the backup guards on redshirt freshman Christian Westerman and true freshman Alex Kozan. The backup tackles are true freshman Patrick Miller and redshirt freshman Shon Coleman.Fariyike played in all 13 games last year, but 12 of them were on special teams. He played center in a backup role against Ole Miss. Now, he's a starter. "It really hit me today. This is it. This is my opportunity to really show what I can do," he said after Sunday's practice.

Both OT are new guys. Crawford, Beasly, Barnes and Goodman..

Aug 26, 2012, 10:56 PM

all need to have their ears pinned back early and often. At least Brandon Thomas has had experience at the LT position and while the RT is in flux I trust Morris to game plan around our line if it starts to be a problem. If I was Venables I'd blitz early and often and see if I couldn't catch either their new QB or new OTs and C with their eyes in the wrong location

I tried to point this out on August 13th with this post

about how they weren't any better off than use on O-line. I posted this same information on a few other posts and I guess people didn't believe me then.

Their OC hasn't proven anything yet. He was the OC at Temple last year but he was essentially running the Head Coach's offense and not his on. The Head man at Temple is Steve Addazio and was the OC for Urban at Florida. Thus Loefer (sp?) still has a lot to prove as an OC with a very inexperieced O-line.

It's spelled Loeffler. Google it and learn all.

DL isn't a strenght of ours like it is for Auburn...

Aug 27, 2012, 12:36 AM

unfortunately. Crawford and Goodman might be pleasant surprises this year, though.

How do you know DL isn't a strength for us?

Aug 27, 2012, 1:32 AM

DL is certainly a question mark but we don't know yet how good they are. Who know how good Brandon Thompson and Andre Branch were before they started getting significant playing time to prove themselves?

Doesn't their new offensive coordinator run a pro style run based offense? It seems a weak/untested offensive line would hurt them a lot more than it would hurt us.

That's what I gathered about their new offense from this article.

It is actually easier for an offensive line to rush block then it is to pass block. At least that is what people tell me. Something along the lines of pass blocking requiring the line to know one another better and work and flow together where as rush blocking is more like knocking people back and open holes.

Attitude is what really matters in the trenches

say what you want about S&C, technique and everything else and while they are all VERY important, it's attitude that matters at the LOS. You have to WANT to crush any and everyone across from you. I like what I've heard from Watson, Williams, and Jarrett. Crawford and Goodman are more silent killers but I think our interior DL will be good and being lined up against a wet behind the ears C should have them salivating.
