I won't be making it to see this guy but at least Clemson opened the stadium for him. I often wonder why we don't host more concerts in DV or LJ because The Well doesn't bring any big names either.

When did Jason Derulo start being known as a hip-hop artist?
Pop / contemporary r&b? Yes. Hip-Hop? Nah.

to quote david grohl: "It’s fun to listen to, to turn up in your car when you’re in traffic, but there’s no substance at all. It’s devoid of any meaning. I’m not just saying that as a 45-year-old rock musician, I’m saying that as a human being. If the Number One song is about your butt, that’s a problem..."

And amazed that he can attract a crowd large enough to need to use DV.
Granted, I don't know many hip hop rappers.

lol...he's not a rapper, he's an R&B/Pop singer and dancer...quite popular with the young crowd, enough to even be a judge on So You Think You Can Dance (TV show) last season.

The attendance was not good.... I was there I know. Actually Rage blew U2 off the stage thus the shunning by Bono not doing New Years Day or Sunday Bloody Sunday ....I really was disappointed in U2. This is why referenced the Eagles as the last good show to come to Death Valley

Because it certainly isn't an article related to Clemson sports or even to the university. I don't mind updates about the university outside of sports, but this has no connection to Clemson other than the venue.

That's what old people said about you listening to Van Halen...
Feb 24, 2016, 4:10 PM
|
|
unfortunately if you're a big fan of rock music, there isn't much for you these days. Rock is pretty much dead, when Imagine Dragons is held up as a rock group. Where is Van Halen? You would need a time machine to go back to 92, because that's the last time they were relevant. Since then they just argue with what ever singer they hire. Whether it's Roth, Haggar, or the dude who sang more than words. And Eddie Van Halen had a stroke

There's plenty of good new "rock" out there. The bands
Feb 24, 2016, 5:20 PM

aren't big/popular/sucky enough to play the larger venues, though. They are mostly suited for the 500-2000 seat places. You won't hear them on most mainstream radio either...

JD is a Hip Hop artist but not a rapper, just as Crump says
Feb 24, 2016, 4:28 PM
|
|
Hip Hop is a genre of music, rap is a genre and a style of musical performance... rappers are in many genres; pop, country, metal, gospel, etc
JD is not R&B, that would be Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, Marvin Gaye, Anthony Hamilton, Jill Scott, Lionel Ritchie, Whitney Houston, etc...
I don't care for much modern music, just as much as I am sure my parent's generation didn't care a whole lot for my musical tastes in the late 70's, 80's & 90's...
BUT, this is probably going to be a pretty good show, for entertainment purposes only...

it includes graffiti, b-boying, dance and other stuff. Rap is the musical convention. JD is neither. he is pop

i'm very familiar w/ the originators definition
Feb 24, 2016, 4:54 PM
|
|
but Hip Hop artists cross over into pop much like country, metal, rap, folk and so many others do which has broadened the base of pop to include a majority of music genres. but it really doesn't matter what any artist want to call themselves; they really don't care as long as the fees and royalties are deposited... except for KRS-One, he def wants to be known as a Hip Hop artist...

Rap is hip hop, R&B singing is R&B...
Feb 24, 2016, 4:36 PM
[ in reply to JD is a Hip Hop artist but not a rapper, just as Crump says ] |
|
Jill Scott and Anthony Hamilton are soul. Marvin Gaye was soul too. You misunderstand modern R&B. It mixes pop and dance music with R&B and they copy the asthetics of hip hop artists trying to look "gangsta". R&B pop is not related to hip hop.

they are probably afraid of what the ticket price
Feb 24, 2016, 5:41 PM
|
|
is projected to be, some markets can't afford the best artists because there is not enough of the buying public to pay enough tickets so that the promoter doesn't take a loss... some artists fees will fluctuate depending on the potential gross profit, DV is great for potential profit and neither of those guys would accept the same fee to perform in DV as they would to perform in LJ or The Well...
would you pay $125 or more per ticket for either of those artists to see them in DV?

weeks before Duane died. I also saw Marshall Tucker & Lynyrd Skynyrd open for Chuck Berry, saw the Ike & Tina Turner Revue(that was a great one too), Rod Stewart, Deep Purple, James Gang, Jethro Tull(pretty darn good too). Just a few of the great shows I saw in Littlejohn from 1970-72.
