BCS and SEC (my 2 cents)

Nov 11, 2012, 8:15 AM

The BCS will take 2 SEC teams... Alabama losing to A&M really hurt Clemson. I feel our only chance is OU losing one more.
Even if FSU beats UF, I feel the at large will go to Georgia or LSU. if UF wins, then it is theirs. And of course having ND in the mix this year, takes away another at large spot.

Yep. A&M will jump to #10 tonight, I think. We may stick at #13, but perhaps there is enough for us to jump one spot.

We'll see.

BCS was going to take 2 teams regardless.

What hurts Clemson (besides losing to NCST or SCU) is Oregon losing to Stanford or Oregon State or LA Tech winning out.

If Oregon wins out then the PAC 10 does not get an at large bid. If LA Tech wins out then the could get an automatic at large.

But Oklahoma losing again could offset either of the above scenarios.

BCS was going to take two SEC teams regardless, but one, Alabama was in the NC Game leaving one at large spot.
Now, they are in the Sugar and take an at large spot in the Fiesta...

That spot is replacing a conference champ in the NC game.

It's a wash. BCS is still 6 conference champs and 4 at large. SEC still gets 1 conference champ and 1 at large regardless of whether in the NC game or not.

I see your point... it could be... I hope it is... I still feel OU needs to lose one more. The fiesta will take them being the "local" team.

Out of curiosity, how does it hurt Clemson?

Nov 11, 2012, 8:24 AM

I could be missing something, so I'll ask ... I'm sure we've all mentally assigned two SEC spots in the BCS.

Alabam losing creates some chaos, but doesn't change that equation. Whether it was Bama vs. whoever in the title game ... the BB Heads or K State or Oregon ... there's still only room for one more SEC school in the BCS.

That last spot is still looking like Clemson vs. Oklahoma, and nothing that happens in the SEC will change that.

Alabama was in National Championship... therefore

Nov 11, 2012, 8:26 AM

they were not using an at large selection. Now Alabama is in the sugar (who was the at large selection)...and UF/UGA/LSU takes "the at large selection" in the Fiesta.

In the Sugar as the conference champ, not the at large.

Not taking up any at large spot.

The only thing that potentially screws Clemson is Oregon in the NC game and the Rose taking a 3 loss PAC 10 at large just because they still want a PAC 10 team. But Stanford or OSU would not be ranked high enough after losing to Oregon.
