As is often the case ..................

when people say negative things about my Clemson you need to be on your guard. I learned in the last hour that the person who reported to me that the School of Agriculture was in trouble simply has an axe to grind with the Univ. for some reason. I have been assured that things are going very well at Clemson. None of the departments are happy that they have vacancies that aren't being filled right now but we as a university are in great shape. Obviously Clemson needs more money to do all the things that they want to do but hopefully that will get better. Many of the academic folks are dissatisfied that the athletic guys get all the money but that is to be expected. I am sure that happens everywhere. When a coach gets hundreds of thousands to sign on with a tteam and there is no money for a lecturer in the English Deptarment causes ill feelings. So help with the various funds if you can. Lets keep Clemson strong.
Got to get back to this social hour but I felt like I needed t check in with you guys. GO TIGERS

I could not agree with you more. Clemson is best known for its athletic teams, football in particular, and it would be a great accomplishment for the AD to divert some of that t.v. and bowl money to the guys who really need it. A lack of monies and a small enrollment will never allow us to become a top 2o university. Whether we want to admit it or not, Clemson doesn't have the top level schools of medicine and law and that hurts our chances of being one of the big boys.We can still be a great school academically and I see us headed in that direction. I have spent the day with students and administrators from VPI, NCSU, Duke, UGA and a number of other schools and we certainly belong with those and others. Money buys greatness. That's just the way it is. Remember that when you complain about my Tigers.

Money buys greatness? Did you mean to say the perception of greatness?
We are Top 25 nationally. Top 20 is Barker's arbitrary goal. 5 more spots doesn't make a real difference in how we are viewed nationally.
The AD already gives over a million a year to the university. You want more? Beg the SEC to let us join and get that extra 10 million a year tv money. However, I don't think a university should be turning to a separate athletic organization to keep it afloat.

Just raise tuition...

Kids can borrow as much as they want now a days at at very low interest rates. I'm sure it won't end up like the housing crisis.

Please franc, let's wait until the end of next year when my daughter is hopefully about finished before the raise. I don't know how much more I can stand!

Pardon me, but you seem very gullible. You immediately believed what your friend told you and then did a 180 and immediately believed what was told to you in the meeting.
From experience, the truth is in the middle and would be VERY skeptical of anything said to you in the meeting as they tried to disparage the guy. Did they actually tell you that what he said was incorrect?
I am in a dying industry but during every annual meeting, each department head twists numbers and sometimes outright lies to convey that "everything is great"
Be careful.

"When a coach gets hundreds of thousands to sign on with a tteam and there is no money for a lecturer in the English Deptarment causes ill feelings."
Then become a coach.
This is how the world works... everyone goes thru it.
