and we have another 1 flying under the radar for '15 who is within an hour of Chapel Hill.....he is sour on Duke and UNC for not even knowing who he is. They will soon.
Our coaches are doing a phenomenal job in identifying these kids very early.

What are you trying to say? That Brownell knows talent when

he sees it, makes an offer, kids commits early and now he is a PARADE All-American? Brownell knows talent and can coach it up. Ex: see current team.

That spaces the floor for our offense and really allows KJ and Nnoko to take of next year.

Gabe was late a bloomer..

ESPN never rated him any more after his Junior year. Recruiting expert Bob Gibbons has Gabe in the top 100 of this 2014 class. Look at the list of names on that Parade team. Gabe might not be in the top 20 players in this class but he gained respect and many know he is a hidden gem.

ESPN didn't rate him beyond his junior year?!!! That's some rating system they've got going there.

in Durham and Chapel Hill have TWO each from this list so they must all be pretty good players. Perhaps they didn't know Devoe had committed to Clemson or they would have left him off. Remember that two kids named Wise and Rome made this list years and they worked out pretty well at Clemson..... for a short while! I don't believe Jennings made this did he?

Don't confuse Parade and McD's All-American with a list
Mar 15, 2014, 2:19 PM
[ in reply to Our friends ] |

of the best 20 or 30 high school players . Both Conde Nast (publisher of Parade) and McDonald's look for high character, academically solid kids to represent their brand. In 2009, for example, everyone knew John Wall was the best high school player in the country. He made neither AA team. Milton was second team Parade AA (there were 10 first teamers, 10 second teamers, etc.) as well as making the McDonald's game (one of about 35). Wall - on the other hand made the Michael Jordan All-Star game and Milt didn't ...
Notwithstanding all that, Parade All-America is a huge honor for Gabe. From 2star to Parade magazine in one season is an astonishing development. He may end up with a 4th star. Can't wait to have him in Clemson.

What you say is true. Devoe has a 4.0+ gpa. Wise and Rome however were not scholars! Things have changed for the better.

As soon as he steps on campus, he'll be the best player on the entire Clemson team.

IMO, he won't be in top 5 with everyone we have back.

Heck, another incoming freshman, Donte Graham, should be better.

He'll have to play defense as well as score to start at CU

I see him as coming off the bench next year when we need a scoring lift, but having to pay his dues on the defensive end of the court to break into Brad's Top 5.
I agree that Grantham probably has a better shot at starting next season.

Though, more recently, I'm thinking more along the lines of Terrence Oglesby.

I left him out because Butch (a prolific scorer) was a starter his whole career even though he played practically no defense. Such was the state of Clemson hoops in the late 60s-early 70s.

the team's problems are scoring, not defense. Everyone on the team can't be built to JUST play defense. Just like everyone isn't built to score. Which, in fact is harder. The team needs play makers and scorers; In order to get better. In fact, McDaniels is a mere athlete...at this time. IMO, there IS NO ONE..no one on the team like Devoe. Not even close really. Hes the closest thing we had to a scorer since KC Rivers. So, if Brad wants the team to be better (IMO*) -he'll put Devoe into the heat, right away. And see what he can do.

against lower level competition all year, 2-A in NC. He's a freshman, and like all freshman, he'll be behind the learning curve. The best thing about his situation, along with Rooks and Grantham, is none of them will need to be the star. They can work themselves in to positions of contributing, all bringing much needed shooting, and not have to have the total load dumped on them. He's not Jabarri Parker
