Trivia #2 -You don't have to warn folks. It's only baseball.

Jun 3, 2022, 2:57 PM

Today date is a big day in the baseball record books because something pretty rare happened.

In almost a quarter million MLB games, 4 million+ pitched innings, and nearly 16 million at bats, it's only happened 18 times. And only 8 times like on June 3, in 1932, by this guy.

The first time was in 1894 by this guy

and the most recent in 2017 by this guy

What is this super-rare baseball occurrence?

This one might have been a little obscure, even with my "fore" clue. Some great answers, all hot on the trail.

With only 8 occurrences in all of MLB baseball history, 4 consecutive home runs by one batter in the same game is extremely rare, if not entirely stupid. WHEN does someone decide to walk that guy?

There are another 10 non-consecutive 4HR games by the same batter recorded.

It's even more rare than a double grand slam in the same game, which occurred 16 times I think. Good tries by all!

How often does a player even have a chance at a grand slam

Jun 3, 2022, 3:47 PM

in a game, much less two oportunities. 16 seems like a high number.

Re: How often does a player even have a chance at a grand slam

Jun 3, 2022, 3:58 PM

Yeah, I was slightly off. 13, not 16. More than I thought, too. Seems it should be much more rare than 4 HR.

"Thirteen players have hit two grand slams in a single Major League Baseball (MLB) game to date, the most recent being Josh Willingham of the Washington Nationals on July 27, 2009.[2] No player has accomplished the feat more than once in his career and no player has ever hit more than two in a game."

And the data on 4HR and 4 consecutive HR in the same game
