Question about running the hill...

Nov 22, 2015, 6:46 PM

At 28 years old now, running down the hill has always been a big deal. But I was wondering if it has always been a huge deal to tiger fans and nationally. Like back in the 60's and 70's? I know it used to be done out of necessity but just wondering if it has always been a huge thing like it is now

TIA

Go Tigers!

.My 1st year to play was 1961 and we ran down the hill then.Ican't say how long it had been going on but Red Parker had nothing to do with that.A mill in Greenville made the IPTAY carpet that was rolled down the hill that was then taken back up

Did you read the article? It said that the hill was used by Frank Howard until he left in 1970 when the west endzone was built. It was done out of necessity without much fanfare. After the west endzone locker rooms were built the running down the hill stopped for a few years. He brought it back.

I think it has grown over the years. Big for the fans and team. Then Brent Musberger dubbed it "the most exciting 25 seconds in college football" back in I think 1988. Then the uga game in 2013 really brought it to the national spotlight.

...I sat on the Hill back in the early/mid 70's....

....I remember it being a big deal back then, saw the '76 SC game, '77ND, '78 SC and I remember it being a big deal in all of them.....

It wasn't a big deal in the early 60's. If you got there in time to watch the warm ups you cheered as they entered, but I don't even remember the band always being there before they ran down the hill. Of course Howard's Rock was still in Death Valley, CA at the time.

Running down the hill was the most convenient way

To enter the stadium up until the west end zone locker rooms were built. Then Parker(?) brought it back to fire up his crappy teams

It was my freshman year at Clemson and I remember sitting anywhere we wanted to in the student section with my coot brother in law.
