A venables team with those players would have not given up a single touchdown. Pudding was so afraid we played soft coverage with very little blitzing.

The dude could not call a great game at the high school level. We pulled him out of a stat room in baseball
Not even sure the guy ever played football either

I wouldn’t go that far yet… let’s see how the rest of the season plays out. He adjusted at halftime and defense did well most of the game. Wiggins getting hurt at the end didn’t help.
What I can’t understand is why that 3 down lineman formation is still in the playbook. Not once have we EVER been successful running that

Brent Venables. Wes is evolving, but he does appear to be reluctant to blitz. The diametric opposite of Brent, who seemed to send a blitzer from somewhere on just about every play.
That does not concern me as much as his seeming propensity to want to play a predominantly 3 man front. You combine THAT with minimal blitzes, and you are really putting your backers and secondary at a competitive disadvantage.
I don't get that, it certainly is not from a lack of D-Line talent, not this year.
