Proof- Dabo's Buyout is Ridiculous

Saban's and Dabo's buyout is about the same.
Dabo, unfortunately not remotely close to Saban's stature.

Well, I would rather have Dabo as a coach than Saban. So, I guess we need to up the pot.

no you have no special gift or gifts. we have all read your posts. what is special is the tnet system that determines the pulse. pumpers prevail and down vote those who disagree with them, logic and truth be ######. so rest easy, you do NOT have any special insights or powers. although I am sure you ARE special in SOME ways!

The only buyout info i've found is:
Jun 4, 2014, 8:52 AM
|
|
Saban will not owe a buyout if he leaves for another HC position, however, Dabo will owe 5 Mil if he leaves during the first 3 years of his new contract.

sounds like both could end up having to put with Chad Kelly's antics. that would diminish Saban in my book if he does eventually do that. He has the benefit of knowing what went on at Clemson

You're only partly correct....

Dabo's base contract is just shy of $3.4 million annually while Saban's is nearly $7 million per year. If either school elects to terminate without cause, the schools would owe 100% of the remaining contract value so clearly Alabama's buyout exposure is far greater.
The biggest difference is Saban would not own Bama anything is he chose to leave for another coaching position. If Dabo leaves Clemson, he would owe Clemson $5 million. That amount drops to $3 million in Year 4 and continues to decline in later years.

Alabama actually negotiated a buyout cap of $23.3 million. But gets no reduction in the later years. The differences in the contract perfectly reflect the stature and needs of the two coaches. Dabo's is designed to ward off a trigger finger within our AD if he should have a bad season but his cost and the cost of a buyout will be dramatically below market value in the later years. If Saban is going to make $7 mill in 2014 then the cost of a lot flight replacement for Swinney in 2016 or beyond is going to make his $3 million look like chump change.
Saban, on the other hand, knows there is no threat of being fired in the near term even if they have some bad years. It simply is not going to happen. So Alabama makes it appears as though they have a "buyout" the reality is that Saban negotiated a contract that is, in effect, 100% guaranteed since it is guaranteed in full past year 4.
If Swinney maintains his current level of success, his contract may be as much as $5-7 million per year below market value at the midpoint of his contract.

I will have two of what he ^^ is drinking, smoking, or snorting. saban, like him or not is the best college coach in the game. not just my opinion either, seems MOST intelligent sports people agree. that is why he is paid the highest amount of money as a college coach. not many people have won a nc at more than one school.

I can understand why Tigernetters might not understand this but a bunch of hurpa derping on message boards does not a hot seat make. A hot seat means an actual possibility of a coach being fired. And there is zero possibility, whatsoever, that Saban will be fired at Alabama.

Their buyout is only the same if both schools decided to fire them now. Do you think either school is going to fire either coach in the next two seasons much less before the start of the 2014 season? Swinney's contract is worth $25 million. Saban's is worth $56 million. At the midway point Clemson can buyout for $7 million. At that point Alabama would have to spend $23.3 million and from there will never owe less than the full $6.9 million per year remaining.

You're right, Dabo is taller both literally and figuratively! The Napoleon of Alabama also just had his step stool gold plated as another example of his rampant over compensation for his short stature, proving you can find $hit on top of gold if you look real hard.

I mean really, could anyone pass a smell test like that?
The truth is, you didn't like hiring Dabo. You are miserable that you can't be right even though Dabo's been the best thing to happen to Clemson Football since Danny departed.
There is a good thing about this. I read your post occasionally but you have to live with that miserable attitude until the sweet taste of death releases you.

Hey, I did not like the Dabo hire, that is true.
He has done some good things, but he cannot beat the Coots.
Did he deserve the contract with the ridiculous buyout?
Absolutely NOT!!!!

to understand WHY the buyout is ludicrous, you must understand WHY buyouts exist.
So why does a buy out exist? Why give a coach a raise?
The answer is simple - if school A doesn't pay them, school B will.
It is to ensure that your coach will not be courted away by another program.
My question is - who is coming after Dabo? That, in my eyes, is why his contract is ridiculous.
