Problem with transmission shift cable prompts Saturn Aura
Sep 26, 2012, 1:16 AM
General Motors has publicized a Saturn Aura recall, relating to the 2007 to 2010 model year of that car, along with the 2008 to 2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6. The issue is the transmission shift cable, which can break and fail to fully select a gear, specifically park. Are you in the market to buy or sell a used or new SUV? GM publicizes recall
The Los Angeles Times explained that the Saturn Aura sedan from the old Saturn brand was publicized by GM recently. Saab is the only brand of that General Motors sold off to a brand new company, but it has not been successful. There were many other brands wrecked when General Motors went through its bankruptcy, and Saturn was one of them.
The Aura shared platforms with the Chevrolet Malibu and the Pontiac G6, both similarly sized sedans, which are also integrated in the recall.
The recall is for the 2007 to 2010 Saturn Aura and the 2008 to 2010 model year Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 sedans equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission.
Plenty of vehicles being recalled
According to the Huffington Post, 426,240 automobiles in the U.S. and 40,029 in Canada will be affected by the recall on top of another 7,572 cars throughout the rest of the world.
AutoBlog explained that the transmission shift cable locking tabs can shatter and lead to the cable loosening. This can trigger the car to stay in gear even when the shifter is moved to park, which is a safety issue, because the connection between the shifter and transmission could be loosened.
The transmission can even remain in park after the key is taken from the ignition, in spite of the display panel reading that the car is in “park.” This poses a danger to motorists, who should keep an eye out for the problem and perhaps put on the parking brake until the fix has been completed.
Recall starts soon
Hopefully, there will be no other automobiles struggling until the recall will happen because it would be terrible for someone with a car bank loan on the car to lose it as it falls out of the driveway. The Saturn Aura recall does not presently have a start date, according to AutoBlog, but it should be starting in the near future. GM will be contacting owners soon to let them know there is a problem.
Owners can get the work done on their car for free at the nearest GM service center. They will either fix the transmission shift cable or replace it entirely.
