I'm always a sucker for Airplane though.
Also Vacation & Christmas Vacation, Caddyshack, Animal House, Dumb and Dumber, There's Something About Mary, Anchorman, Naked Gun, Coming to America, Kingpin, Ghostbusters, The Jerk, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Borat, The Hangover, Superbad.
Too hard for me, and there's so many more good ones too, but let's just say that if any of those are on then I'm entertained!

Wow, that is a pretty good list that I would include in my favorites of all time too. I would add Clue for personal reasons and 40 year old Virgin as well but that is very close to exactly what I would have put up there.
Nice job!

Here's one of my favorite Airplane scenes with a play off Notre Dame's famous Gipper speech. Looking back now, what brilliance to bring in dramatic actors to read those lines, and if people don't remember Leslie Neilsen before Airplane, he wasn't a comedian, he was a regular actor. Airplane was the originator of that kind of comedy.
"I don't know where I'll be then Doc, he said, but I won't smell too good that's for sure!"

Concur. Point. Not sure if most of you are old enough to remember "Dr. Strangelove" but that, IMO, is a classic and worthy of consideration. Peter Sellers and George C. Scott - hilarious.

Otter: Point of parliamentary procedure! Hoover: Don't screw around, they're serious this time! Otter: Take it easy, I'm pre-law. Boon: I thought you were pre-med. Otter: What's the difference? [Addressing the room] Otter: Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did. [winks at Dean Wormer] Otter: But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen! No way to give you one: here's one for each day of the week
Aug 26, 2012, 10:29 AM
|

While we're waiting for the game, here's a list to fill your idle nights.
Sunday: "Monty Python and the Holy Grail:" There are three films that had me laughing until I was crying in the theater. This is one of them. It's more than a movie ... it's a chunk of my life.
Monday: The second film that earned that honor was "Animal House." The fact that I was in college at the time added to the depth of devotion to that film. The Deathmobile parade was comic genius.
Tuesday: The third such film has been forgotten by most folks. "What's Up Doc?" builds to a fever pitch ... so funny you forget the main actors are Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neill. It takes a GREAT film to accomplish that!
Wednesday: My favorite film that most folks either never saw or hated. "Mystery Men" is a great ensemble and quirky clever comedy. If you don't like it, just plug in "Airplane" or "The Hangover" ... you know it's funny!
Thursday: Make up a drinking game with "Young Frankenstein." The person who can't come up with a quotable line or side-splitting scenario has to drink. Some folks might prefer "Blazing Saddles" but I'll take the clever over the slapstick.
Friday: An esoteric option. Either go old school with "Duck Soup" and "Night at the Opera" by the Marx Brothers, or go overseas with the original "La Cage Au Folles." Or get ready for the game....
Saturday: Spot the dang ball with a sports film. "Major League" remains the funniest sports movie. Great ensemble, quotable throughout and even folks who don't care for sports can appreciate it. Or opt for the season with "Waterboy" (even though the Mud Dogs DID beat Clemson.)
Dang, there are a bunch I didn't include ... but I'm trying to narrow the field. You can't go wrong with these choices!
