Put me down for Brooks. I think he had the potential and ability to take the job from Hot Rod last season but injury and McDowell's good start hindered his development. I am thinking not great #'s (mostly because it will be divided up into the committee style ) but somewhere in the area of 850 yds w/4.4 ypc and maybe 9 TDS.

Pick out the guy you think is going to lead the team in rushing this year.

Short yardage situations have been a problem for Clemson
Apr 27, 2014, 9:03 AM

recently, as it always seemed like Tajh had to keep to try and get the necessary yards, Hoping Gallman is the breakaway/hardnosed RB Clemson's been needing. I had been noticing Dye until the injury bug bit, still hopeful he can play, but I wonder about his ability after returning from this latest problem!(Achilles)

Funny you said that.
Like you, I don't wanna seem negative about TD. But you have to believe he might just be at the cross roads in his career.
Moving forward, Gallman looks like he could have a break- out year and a good compliment to DJ Howard.

Tyshon is young, so he has that going for him. Wishing him a great recovery process.
I just read an article the other day regarding Achilles tears - only two thirds of NFL PLAYERS even come back from this injury.
By the same token - 'Nique Wilkins came back from the same injury at an advanced age, and had his most productive season ever for the Atl Hawks. Like 29.5 ppg.

Pure speculation on my part . . . but I think Gallman gets

the most carries and the most yards. That is based on what I saw in the spring game, where Gallman showed a great blend of size, speed, and elusiveness, plus the praise coaches have heaped on him.
CJ Davidson has always looked impressive to me, and did again in the spring game. For him I think it's been about experience, which he has gained, and opportunity, which he now has. I expect him to contribute significantly as well.
As for Brooks and Howard, I see them as good RBs who are fighting for PT against better RBs. Both will continue to be role players of varying degrees, depending on the situation.
The wild card in all of this is Tyshon Dye. Based on coaches' comments from last year's fall camp and more recent comments by Dabo, I can't help but believe that if and when healthy, Dye could be "The Man", and wind up with the bulk of the carries. It will depend on how well and how fast he heals, along with how tightly (or not) Gallman is able to lock down the starting job.
Lastly, do not overlook Kurt Flemming in all of this. I have no idea how he is picking up the offense and blocking and pass protection and all of that, but this guy is a tank who runs with a physicality we have not seen here for some time. But, he is much more than a slow, plodding bull; he is fast and explosive as well. I have no idea how he ultimately fits in, but don't be surprised if he makes an impact in some form or fashion. Barring injury, I can't dream of a scenario in which he rides the pine for 4 years.

agree with almost all of that, but I think Flemming is this years "spring feel good story". When push comes to shove on the goal line, he will be a blocker if he is on the field at all.

How come nobody is picking Kurt Fleming. In case you guys didn't see him run over Dorian O'Daniel during the Spring Game maybe someone needs to look at it again.

Maybe, but he's different from any fullback we've had at

Clemson. If he does become a fullback, I'm thinking the typical fullback role, as we've come to know it, is greatly expanded. He's seems capable of more than a blocker and short yardage guy who is limited to a few carries here and there.

Agree. He has to heal and learn the offense, but should be a force on short yardage situations. He'll be the guy that gets the few we need and has the ability to take off for a giant gain. I'm looking forward to see him play!

I can't remember a time when we had so many backs in the stable. I just hope that the O line is up to the task of not only creating running lanes, but also protecting a 1st year starter QB.
