One observation: I think UGA has learned from its

Jul 16, 2013, 11:54 AM

experience in Cooterville last year. Basically, UGA got punched in the mouth by the crowd noise in the first quarter and never recovered.

If I am UGA coaches I am going to work on how to handle the crowd noise in Death Valley and not let the game get away in the first quarter. I think our team will have to execute at a higher level to get the same results USuC got from the crowd boost last year.

I believe in crowd noise--I think it can disrupt and help you to win games -- like the 1980 VPI game in which the homecoming crowd won the game for Clemson in the 4th quarter -- but I think UGA will not let it overwhelm them like at Cooterville. Good teams learn from their experiences. I think it is going to be slug-fest in the 1st quarter between the Tigers and Dawgs. It will be a close game going into the 4th IMHO.

Now, if we do end up scoring 2 or 3X in the first 15 minutes and keep them off the board then all bets are off. In any event this will be a good game. I cannot wait!

GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will be a battle, both teams will be a little rusty. If the Tigers D can hold down the Dawgs rushing attack we win.Clemson can not let UGA get a bunch of first downs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Especially since this will be the 1st game of the season....

for both teams. Our crowd being loud will hopefully get to their players who haven't played much in the past, not to mention their veterans.

murray's game was anything but sellar but in his defense he had just learned his father had been diagnosed with cancer. I have doubts he was mentally ready for this contest...certainly not 100%.

after 4 games this was the 1st game our defensive starters were playing together after all those suspensions....they were no doubt rusty.

had rambo intercepted the game's first pass instead of allowing Byrd to take it from him things may have been different.

certainly murray's first pass beening tipped and interceptedon our own 25 didn't help either.

Aces punt return was the icing on the cake.

failing to score before halftime killed us.

Coulda shoulda woulda

We should have won the FSU game, and could make excuses for it, too. But we lost, and so did your Dawgs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, basically everything worked perfect for SC...

The play that Rambo didn't make really set the tone for that night.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's why we should try to break the noise record again

Jul 16, 2013, 12:53 PM

We broke it once in 2005 when Miami came to town, then Washington 1-uped us two years later (though there have been rumors that we broke it again in 2006 and 2007, but nothing official). Before that game there was stuff all around town telling people to be loud and Coach Bowden made it clear to the fans that he wanted crowd noise. And because of that noise, unranked (and pretty average) Clemson took the number 10 team in the nation to double OT. Since that's the case, I say we start a campaign to make everyone as loud as possible.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That Miami game was ear-splitting loud

Was in Tiger Band at the time and I couldn't hear the horn I was playing even though it was on my face.

Crowd noise is one reason why Dabo should defer if we win

Jul 16, 2013, 1:00 PM

the toss. Make them go out on offense first. Plus, it's better to have the ball to start the second half, IMO.

I agree. Having the ball and putting their D on the field is extremely important to start the second half.

The downside is them scoring on the first drive. I think this particular Clemson team will have no trouble scoring so everyone believes.

If they score I hope it quick and not a long sustained drive.

At 8pm On Saturday Thank God.

Jul 16, 2013, 1:28 PM

That though I expect it to be humid on that field,
there won't be a scorching sun that night tearing
and burning a new one in everybody's ####....fans,
coaches, workers, and players.

I disagree, if we take the ball and go down for a quick first score, then they are behind the 8 ball from the get go. Look what happened when they got down against USuCk last year...it was over early.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ST, I'm not arguing your point, but I prefer to take the

ball on the coin toss...and ram it down the throats of any and all opponents, mainly for the purpose of serving notice that we are ready to rumble! Then, let our D come on the field, and three-and-out em. Second attack...same as the first; then, a third. BOOM BOOM BOOM.

Make those sorry bastages have to play catch-up; make them reel over from our high-energy, lightning attacks; make them stand on the sidelines, scratching their behinds and heads while wondering what to try next. Give em no quarter...ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK.

I will never forgot that VPI game in 1980...

Jul 16, 2013, 1:44 PM

I was a freshman and that is when I understood the "magic" of Death Valley.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Depends on how you look at it (the UGA or Clemson lens)...

Jul 16, 2013, 3:22 PM

If I recall, on SC's first drive last year, the Georgia DB had a cinch interception in his hands, and the SC WR ripped the ball out of his hands and turned the play from a turnover into a 40-yard gain.

Then, on UGA's next possession, a tipped ball was caught inches from the ground by a lunging SC lineman.

Georgia didn't make plays. And in that regard, maybe you could say they didn't rise to the occasion. On the other hand, SC was sky-high and made a few huge huge early plays to get up 21-0.

SC didn't play that well the rest of the entire season. Their play dropped off drastically the next two weeks with LSU & Florida. UGA played much better later in the season.

But you bring up a good point. The visiting team always has to "survive" the early crowd. That will be a big deal for UGA this year in Clemson, as the crowd will be all over them and probably louder than what they experienced in Columbia last year. DV's acoustics are really good when you guys get into the game. Very loud.
