Old timers ....

May 8, 2014, 6:08 PM

who remembers the Frank Howard Show in the 60's? I've been trying to remember the host, (I think it was on WSAP),who worked with Coach Howard on the Sundays commenting on the previous Saturday's game.
Was it Vernon Tate?

WFBC-TV Greenville. I'm not sure about the host. WFBC is now WYFF-TV

The "Frank Howard Show" emanated from the plush studios of WSPA-TV in Sparkleberry and Verner Tate was the host.

I pretty sure Howard also did a weekly show after he retired

May 8, 2014, 6:36 PM

in which he and the host talked about and picked winners of that weeks upcoming college games. Seems like Stan Olenick may have been the host, but I'm not sure.

I don't remember his whole name, but I can remember the Sunday post game show and Coach Howard saying something to him like; Vuhn here goes Buddy Goah up da middle fo 15 yahds an a fust down. I did enjoy that show. I think towards the end of Coach Howard's career, they could get rather testy with one another.

WHAT?

May 8, 2014, 7:06 PM

I don't remember cause I'm old but back in my day we didn't call our elders 'old timers,' especially when we wanted something from them.

You've been watching too many old cowboy movies but if you'd go back and take another peek at them you'd see the smart azzes that used that kind of terms always took a beating from the guys that wore the white hats.

You should be respectful to gentlemen old enough to remember the sixties cause we're old enough to be your grandfather, heck, hartins and LbB might be.

Pronounced Voy-nuh Tay-it

May 8, 2014, 8:15 PM

Coach pronounced it with "Voy-nuh Tay-it." Clemson show, usually beating some ACC team, mom's meatloaf, and homemade banana pudding. Hard to beat that combo.
