OL coaching position

Has this position, with the speed of football changing, become extremely difficult to perfect.

It sure never seemed to be when Danny was here but i'm sure him being an OL himself worked wonders when it came to the recruits.

Dabo, WR , not so much comparatively.

Seems like everywhere blaming OL for everything. Is most of it true or are they getting bad shade thrown their way because it's easier to blame a unit than a specific player

Colorado, Panthers, Clemson, Texans, Notre Dame, South Carolina.

All different problems, same blame. the OL

just sit on that

If I had to rank the most important and most difficult coaching hires, I would rank the O-line coach #2. Right behind the strength coach.

You have to win in the trenches and while coaching and developing is a very important part, it all starts with talent. If you look at what talent has meant on the defensive line for us then you understand why we have a lot of success there, and why we send a lot of guys to the next level. We need to be able to recruit at that same level on the OL.

I mentioned this in an earlier post that I would like to see us get someone on staff from the Midwest who is familiar with, and has experience, recruiting farmboys in those key midwest states that typically wind up in the Big 10. I really think this could help us form a good nucleus and start to build some momentum in recruiting for our OL.

The O line often gets the blame when quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends and wide receivers are not good enough to win games. It takes all 11 players to win.

You may be onto something. Also seeing OL problems

in the NFL (Jacksonville and Cleveland, just to name a couple). If you’re right, that’s all the more reason to hire an experienced OL coach.

I firmly believe we did several things better when Danny was the head coach (nowhere near as many missed tackles, for one thing). Of course, my Dad used to point out that Danny could keep the players out on the practice field as long as he wanted to: the NCAA didn’t have rules about that in the 1970s-80s.

Not the changing of the game - inherent identification of top players

OL is the most difficult position to project from HS to college. This is the reason that Dabo likes to have OL come to camps and compete against the top competition prior to offering.
