O'Reilly goes off!

I can go along with about 98% of that.

Our nation's drug problem needs a fair bit of refining. Locking up dealers for long periods, while probably well deserved in many cases, does not seem to be getting the job done.

Turn up for what?

He raises some tough arguments. When was this aired and

has there been any response from those he "called out"?

Of course, we all know this will produce nothing meaningful.

For those of us who don't care: What did he say?***

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

anyone who looks to Bill Riley for guidance needs to have their head checked. His job is to divide people over unimportant issues while distracting us from the real problems in this country.

I think his job is to be as outrageously stupid as possible to draw in viewers, just like his buddy Rush.

We can't start with the drug war. TOTAL FAILURE.

Oct 20, 2014, 10:31 PM

Mandatory minimums don't work either. We need prison reform, not sentencing reform.

Mandatory school uniforms? I'll pass on the fascism, thank you. We need more choices in education for the poor, not tighter control.

I could go on, but there is a good starting point.

No. He's wrong. The evidence does not support his claims.

"Mandatory minimums don't work" - What mandatory minimum prison sentences don't work? For drug dealers? How do we know that? How would you approach drug dealing?

"Prison reform, not sentencing reform" - I don't know what you mean by this.

"I'll pass on the fascism" - Fascism like England and Ireland? I'm not a fan of school uniforms either (dress codes should suffice). However, I think it's a leap to call it "fascism" and doubtful that it's a central pillar of O'Reilly's rant.

School choice? Like voucher programs?

I'd say his central themes were personal accountability, harsher treatment for drug dealers and a little shaming of the entertainment industry. I'm not sure this qualifies as "insane." For a conservative, personal accountability is a central pillar to any opportunity for reform, and I have yet to see a situation where it shouldn't be. I'm not sure the damage of drugs in poor inner cities can be debated, can it? And would you argue that the most popular music for the urban black community doesn't glorify crime, misogyny and violence?

And just to be clear - I can't stand Bill O'Reilly. I never watch his show. Blowhard.
