Listening to National Sports Talk the AM…

Oct 9, 2022, 2:54 PM

And the topic was “ will Brent Venables make it to the end of the season”.

Hope I am wrong but never ever saw him
As a head coach. Not because he stayed here for so long but just didn’t have the demeanor a d personality I’m my opinion.

I’d take him back!

No way they fire him in year 1

Even if he continues to lose ugly, I don't see it happening.

BV will be fine… it is transition year to a more D oriented

Team instead of just Offense oriented only. OU will become a more balanced team in less than 3 years which will finally make them dangerous to play in the SEC competition. Better than TAM for sure!

I think the level of repair needed at OK was underestimated.

Lost their Heisman candidate QB who left with their old coach, are on their backup QB now... and lots of experience on defense.
Add to that that Venables has to drive the ship and so has to find someone to functionally replace HIM at DC... and it's quite a task.
I think if they give him the time it will pay out... but he'll earn all of his money. This wasn't nearly as much of a 'plug and play' situation as a lot of people thought.

Two QB transfers and 1 injured so maybe 4th string QB?

Agreed. They really weren’t as good last year either compared to what they’ve been in the past. They only lost 2 games but had 5 wins by 7 points or less.

no way he gets fired after one year. He would have to lose a few more and go 6-6 next year to lose his job and that won't happen. He'll be fine in the long run....but the short run cannot be any fun.

His buyout would be large after only one year. he has to totally rebuild. I'm guessing by year 3 we will see his recruits and quite a different team than we are seeing right now.

They have to give him a chance to create his team....

Oct 9, 2022, 3:54 PM

Consider it in 3 years....no sooner.

NO WAY..that would be a GROSS overreaction…

OU pulls that stunt with CBV, good luck finding another “COMMITTED” coach that will take their money next time around.

Sure, they will find their next “taker” for the money they will throw at him.

However, getting that next head coach “bought in” will be impossible, because they will know quite well that the OU administration will never be “bought into” them. They will throw them under the bus just like they would have done to CBV.

This type of decision making would turn them into Nebraska football in a heartbeat.

Has Coach Venebles already purchased an expensive home in Oklahoma or is he renting?
