No Night Games

We almost never play at night at home. Could this be used against us, and actually hurt us in recruiting? And before you say that wouldnt actually keep a kid from coming to Clemson, think about it..... kids want to showcase their skills in front of the most exciting home crowd possible. Anybody else remember the night game against FSU several years ago and that being one of the truly special scenes in the history of Clemson Football?
Whow makes this decision?
Why would anyone who cares about Clemson Football keep this(night home games) from happening?

he actually tweeted that he wasn't enjoying it at AU and was thinking about quitting. Had a link about a week ago but since removed from his twitter page. Sure coach wasn't happy about that one

I'm sorry, I'm trying to catch up here because this is the first I've heard of this. Do you know if there's anyone I can fax to get this changed? Maybe zowie has a phone number we can call.

And no, I don't think it is coincidence. I think it is we rarely deserved one. From 04-07 (recently after those comments) we had a number of night games, and a lot of 330 games ending after dark. We were a solid team playing good competition. Then in 08 we fell off quickly.
From that point, we started getting better. We did our part. But you have to be playing good teams. Any team worthy of a night game when looking at it preseason dropped the ball. (Example A: Virginia Tech) But there have been others, FSU fell off the map, Miami did. Only game that I have really been surprised wasn't a night game was Auburn last year.
What sucks is we got a lot of road night games. That is what happens when a good team goes to play at an average team...possible upset, good for ratings. Average team at a good team, blowout and bad ratings, thus a kickoff before 3 PM

I HAVE THE ANSWER!!

Lights are expensive to run, and we just had a lot of staff raises, field upgrades, and a nice new indoor facility is going up. If you can save a few bucks here or there, that's what they are going to do.
I actually have no idea, but I'm just trying to provide my most reasonable theory.

Funny thing with this answer if that the money to run the lights is being spent on fireworks.
Fireworks > Night Games ????
I think I know the answer to this question for most fans... and the answer doesn't start with an "F"... unless that is the adjective used to describe the night games...

Loudest I have heard DV in the past 52 years. Southern college football (excluding LSU) is mesnt for beutiful, crisp, colorful autumn afternoons......IMHO.

Yes for both. I think between the two, the Md. game was the loudest, of course Coach Ford helped that a little. LOL

Saying the fans liked it better when it was harder to see that team playing. Now we suddenly want to play every game at night.
Face it, traditionally Clemson has had a 1pm kickoff. For any number of reasons, but the season ticket holders prefer afternoon starts, the school prefers afternoon starts, the city of Clemson prefers afternoon starts, the police prefer afternoon starts, the businesses and hotels prefer afternoon starts. Shoot, the only reason we even put in lights with the North Upper was for TV.

I think the 5pm kickoff we've had a couple of times is also good early in the year.
But too much is made about the "night atmosphere." Any big game has great atmosphere and as a percentage we play more big games at night so I think people just associate the two together. I've been to plenty of big games that started at 1. The problem with night game atmosphere, its usually hopping at the beginning, but by the 4th quarter all that "atmosphere" has been consumed and digested. They are starting to wear out and pass out.
There is nothing more festive than being in the parking lot after a big win. After a night game, win or lose, the party is over because people get in their cars and head out.

It would not matter if our new AD had a passion for night games. I don't think the schools have much, if any, control over it now. The TV folks, because of the obscene amount of $$$ they throw at college football, control when games start and who plays in what time slot. The ACC will have to get better for us to get a fair share of night games ... even if we want them.

I have heard many players say they prefer the noon games because they are not waiting around in the training room or hotel room all day. Personally I like 3:30 games because I don't have to be up at 6 am and I can be home to watch the 8pm games, plus it is easier on the kids.
