Nice act of kindness by a Clemson graduate last night...

Nov 4, 2012, 9:13 AM

I was at Publix in Lexington last night getting a few things before my wife, infant son and I headed over to some friends' house to watch the game. Of course I had a Clemson shirt on and as I got in the checkout line a friendly gentleman, in his 60s, in front of me in line started talking to me, asking me if I was a graduate (CU '07), what I studied, where I worked and whatnot. Turns out he was a '66 graduate and was also getting some items to grill out for the game.

As the cashier was almost finished scanning this gentleman's items, he pushed my groceries towards the cashier and told him, "Add these items to my bill but keep them separate for this young Clemson man." Of course I tried to talk him out of it but he would have none of it. It was probably $30-40 worth of groceries, nothing life changing, but it was a very nice and unsolicited act of kindness by a fellow Clemson man that made a great impression on me.

Unfortunatley I wasn't thinking straight and failed to remember your name, but if you by chance read or post on TigerNet then I want to thank you again for this kind act. I likely won't have the chance to pay you back, but when the opportunity is presented to me in the future I will make sure to pass on your gift to someone else.

I think you'll find that CLEMSON grads tend to be this way thru life. I'm not sure which class teaches this trait. :)

No class teaches it; there's just something in these hills..***

I've had strangers ahead of me twice pay for my meal in drive thrus. What kind of custom is this now? It's made me start looking in mirrors now to pay for their food lol.

"Hartins" is Harry Tinsley, former editor of The TIGER paper

niece's wedding most of the day until shortly before game time. This was a great gesture from one Tiger to another, and what I've constantly referred to: Tigers looking out for other Tigers! I've had a lot of older Tigers help me over the years, and I've tried to continue the tradition with our younger crowd. It's that "special bond" that ALL Clemson people have....
