Here is official LDS Church policy on the matter...

... Church facilities may be used for voter registration and as polling places at the request of voting officials if:

a. There is no reasonable alternative.

b. The officials and voters maintain Church standards in the building.

c. The event will not pose physical danger to the building.

d. The event will not harm the image of the Church.

It's item a that almost always gets LDS meeting houses ruled out because fire stations, the library, town halls, etc. always seem to be the more reasonable alternative.

people walking around the fire station a good idea? My polling place is pretty close to a fire station and if something happens tonight, they are going to be delayed a bit getting out as is.
