Most of the student athletes in the portal…

Know where they’re going. They are not blindly going into the portal with the hopes of landing somewhere better. They’ve been contacted and “tampered” with during the season.
My fear is that Pearman and Dabo wait too late.
A majority of the portal guys will be crystal balled this week.

This much generalization is ridiculous. There are at least 3 subsets:
Those butt hurt because they don’t start.
Those seeking NIL dollars.
Those desiring to play for a winning team.
I’m sure there are some that simply don’t get along with their position coach, but that is usually #1 above.
I can’t think of a single thing the NCAA has gotten right in the past 50 years, but this NIL Pandora's Box is by far the most destructive to sports that I have witnessed.
The whole idea of college sports was to develop athletes while getting a degree, not to have an annual redraft of players. So if a player doesn’t find a place that guarantees him big NIL dollars, what does he or she do? (I didn’t want any young people to be triggered by implying that only men play FB.)
The whole mess has ruined the game of football.
In 5-10 years no youngsters will be willing to exert themselves due to racist notions that only slaves work hard.
So the whole thing may explode and universities would have to go back to educating young people.

A small % of high end players were recruited and know where they are going. A larger group (maybe 25%) enter for a good reason but dont know their final destination. For example, a late bloomer who signed out of HS as a two star at a small school but became a star who wants to play for a bigger stage. A bigger group simply want to hit the easy button instead of grinding to improve themselves. A smaller percentage are malcontents. Not surprisingly it is a bell curve with only a small group in one corner knowing their destination before they enter their name in the portal.

The data from portal transfers supports the opposite- “most” don’t know where they’re going or if they think they do, it doesn’t turn out that way.

I wouldn’t discount the notion that most players are tampered with because I think that’s probably something that is so widespread, you’d be hard to find a player who hadn’t been contacted by another program / coach.
