Monte Lee's resume

I just looked over his history and it's very impressive. He's never had closing to a losing season, either overall or in conference. Has taken a small program to the NCAA tournament in 4 out of 7 years. But the thing that got me was that he's only had 18 players drafted in 7 seasons as head coach. Basically what that tells me is that he's winning with lesser talent. From what I see he would be a good hire as he's also very young and could coach here for a long time. Only drawback is what @davidhood said in his post that he grew up a coot fan and we don't know if he would jump ship to go back to his mentor down there. I'd take the chance though. Maybe, just maybe, he would feel at home at Clemson very quickly.

And Clemson just had 6/7 players drafted this week...and beat CofC earlier this year. In reality, that should happen...and it did.
Lee may be a great coach...and I'm happy for CofC since it's my hometown. But this rush to name him as coach makes zero sense. The last I looked 21 of 22 is better than 4 of 7...and rest assured, through all 22 of those years, the Tiger's competition was much, much better.
I want to hear from the guys who went to Omaha 4 of 7 years...and be serious enough with the offer for them to explain why they don't want to come to Clemson. Those guys haven't interviewed yet.

Lee lucked out by moving conferences

From the Southern Conference, to a much weaker Colonial Conference last year, which just so happened to be the year they made their post season run.
Granted, he knows how to recruit the in-state kids, and he knows how and where to find the gems (IE: 4th rd. pick Carl Wise from White Knoll and Freshman All-American Ryan Brown from Lexington)

Say it with me, Lee... Croy. As in Bradley Lecroy. If he isnt named, then someone will hire him and he will be another assistant to go do big things.

He went 44-19 in 2010 and made the tournament.

Also went 38-22 in 2012 and again made the tournament. Both years were before the conference change, and the 2010 record was the exact same as 2014.

You really think the SOCON is better than the Colonial and THAT is why Monte Lee "lucked out"? You could not be more wrong. Both CofC and UNC-Wilmington could play with anybody out this season. Two VERY good teams.
I am both a CofC fan (grad) as well as a Clemson fan. Selfishly I want Monte to stay at CofC but I understand his interest in the Clemson job. The guy can flat out recruit and I think would do great at Clemson. Best coach in the state in my opinion.

People said the same thing about John Pawlowski at the College of Charleston who did the same results as Monte Lee during his tenure there and then went to Auburn and laid an egg only having one regional which he lost to Jack. Monte Lee is a good coach but sometimes the conference change and level can affect everything.

Up until this year, the SoCon was a much stronger baseball conference, generally ranked around 8-12, depending on the year. However, with the loss of the C of C, App. State, Elon, etc., the New SoCon has dropped precipitously. The SoCon is now ranked the 19th toughest conference. CAA is ranked 17th. C of C and UNCW are both very good teams. But, that's about all there is in CAA. So, the original poster was more or less correct in that C of C dropped to a much weaker conference this year. But, had they stayed in the SoCon they would have been in a conference that was much weaker than in prior years. http://www.boydsworld.com/baseball/isr/confisr.html

Except for you konw the whole fact that the Colonial was a harder conference based on sources such as RPI....
Dont let that get in the way though.

I think a better measure would be how much he improved the program. Pawlowski went 250-114 or .687. Monte Lee has gone 276-145 or .656. He has not improved the College of Charleston baseball program at all. So if Pawlowski's performance at Auburn excites you then by all means get very excited about Monte Lee.
