but the portal and the way it is being used (in most cases) is because of the entitled generations now playing football. Kids that have grown up without having to earn everything they have because of all the extra exposure on social media, etc.
A lot of them have never been allowed to fail and then when they do (or don't get the playing time they think they deserve, etc) they leave.
Is what it is at this point and it isn't going anywhere, but it makes me respect the kids that stay at a university for four years, pay their dues, and succeed even more.
There are cases where the portal isn't a bad thing. But in a majority of transfer kids it is because they don't want to work hard enough or wait for their time to come.

25 Days to Prove You Belong on this team speech. It's the MODERN Way
You don't have to really go back that far to see how it was different.
Nuk, he's been vocal in the past about the Sammy.Sammy Sammy stuff when SW2 was a freshman. What'd he do ? Sit and pout ? No. Leave ? Heck NO. He spent every moment he could working on snatching the ball out of the air, making himself one of the best WR to wear THE Paw.

haven't believed all along.
When the NCAA morons tampered with the transfer rule, they proved they didn't understand the mentality of 18 and 19-year-olds, even some 20 and 21-year-olds. I just don't understand the abject stupidity associated with that decision...one that is now biting the assssses of schools across the nation.

Yes, and kids in college also have the ability to get a job and make money. Or start a youtube channel and make money. But these kids shouldn't be allowed to because it makes you unhappy?

Why artificially prevent them from making it in college?
That just means someone else gets their share of the product they produced. What is it about not liking capitalism when it comes to sports?
If you want it to be amateur, then what argument do you have for paying coaches such high salaries to coach and amateur game?

Hard to argue with the athletes. As they watched universities spend millions to build ever larger and more lavish athletic facilities, spend millions on ever bigger coaching contracts, and receive millions from tv revenue, it's not surprising that athletes (many of whom come from meager backgrounds) began to question the fairness of it all. I don't like what has happened to college FB, but I understand why it happened.

So just like any other contract, add a non-compete clause. Bet that wouldn't fly. They want all the benefit with none of the risk.

It's a "me world" now? It's always been a "me" world. #### the guy who made this post is complaining about young men leveraging their talents and position into earning money because it affects his enjoyment of the game, yet somehow they're the selfish ones who are living in a "me" world?

It's a bad one. People having freedom and control over their actions and their person is a good thing. You're advocating for less of it under the guise of "they're doing the wrong thing" when it's plain as day you do like it because it affects how you can enjoy the game. It's time to grow up.

Why would there be loyalty in the workplace? Raises don't match inflation, profits get redirected towards corporate level execs, pensions are a thing of the past...why should anyone be loyal to a workplace?

correction, there is no loyalty from employees because there is no loyalty from the employer. Don't act like this is an employee only issue.
It's a mutual contract, you do not owe your employer anything beyond that.

TMitchell you sure hit a nerve with a few posters on this thread. I for one am getting sick and tired of this me too society. Want everything just given to them. Just think they’ll be the ones running this country in a few years. What a mess it will be, and a lot worse than it is now.

Hold on, this topic is specifically about college football players getting paid. They aren't asking for anything to just be given to them. They are putting a real tangible product on the field that other people are happy to pay for.
Are you not a capitalist?

Folks in the older generations (and I’m in one of the older generations) whining about young people being “entitled” has almost lost all meaning.
Entitled? Really? You think they believe the money is coming without them doing the work, putting in the hours in the gym, in the classroom, etc?
They know their value within this billion dollar industry. They know it’s nothing without them. Frankly, it’s surprising that this is only happening now. And it kind of makes previous generations of players look like suckers.
Dabo calls it “entitled” because he doesn’t know how to use the word. He does the same thing when he misuses and overuses “narrative.” Surely, you’re smarter than that. This isn’t about entitlement.

Did guys like Mitchell Mayes, Hunter Helms, and Beaux Collins transfer because they did not want to work hard or wait for their time to come?
What about Kelly Bryant, Chase Brice, Kobe Pace, Taveon Feaster, Frank Ladson, DJ Uiagelelei, Ej Williams, Decari Collins, ect.?
Most of these guys are older and getting buried on the depth chart by more talented younger players or were not receiving the NFL draft grades they had hoped and are looking for a different system to showcase their talents.
How much money Did Keon Coleman make by going to FSU just to increase his draft stock?
The first pick last year was more than 40 million guaranteed vs the last pick in the second round is only 6.2 million and it keeps going down from there.
Sure there are players who think they should be gifted a spot on the roster just for showing up, but that is not the majority. Most guys just want a chance to keep pursing their dream.
I know it's bad for Clemson and for most guys it's a bad decision to make. The mirror still travels with you and only 1.6% of college players ever make an NFL roster with most never making it out of their rookie contracts. They choose football over a degree and while in most cases I think it is a bad decision, it is not a decision I feel like I have any right to make for them.

Are the Coach's entitled if they want to take more money somewhere else?
These aren't your average kids. Some of them have a real talent that people will literally pay to watch. Why that should all go to the Coaches, Networks, Schools but not the ones who are the actual product, I have no idea why you would think that.

Anyone with half a brain could see that NIL was inevitable. But those making massive profits from the efforts of unpaid student athletes (Power5 schools/NCAA/conferences,etc) tried to squeeze every last dime available before they had to start sharing their profit. I am sorry about the chaos that NIL and the portal have brought to college football. Had the power brokers had anything but their own self-interest in mind, perhaps a simpler and saner system would have resulted. And I am 69 years old.

I am wondering how many of you guys who, offered a better paying position or a position for more room for advancement, would choose to just grind along at your original company and hope for the best (for you and your family)
When these guys were playing for Clemson, we spoke of their character and drive in glowing terms, but as soon as they look to improve their situation, we question their intelligence and commitment.
Life is change.

I don't love the lack of controls on the portal or NIL, but give me a break. College football is a massive business and, until two years ago, players had virtually no rights, no freedom of movement, and no ability to make some of the money that they were earning for everyone else. It is parents' and coaches' responsibility to teach these virtues, but using those virtues as a rationale to keep players from getting basic rights is nonsense. They don't owe you, me, or anyone else anything.
