Letting Pitt and Syracuse in should have been a warning

Jun 12, 2012, 6:35 PM

The ACC powers (NC schools, Va and Md) care only about basketball. They are marginal football programs. Not ever going to be in the same class as Clemson, FSU, or even GT. I agree with Dabo that the Big 12 would be a bad move, but the alternative of getting left behind in the ACC without FSU, VT, or GT (replaced by slacker Big East rejects) is worse, unless as I have posted before you think basketball could be the Tigers number 1 sport. FSU and GT are big market programs, highly attractive to other conferences, and will leave unless the ACC makes major concessions, which I seriously doubt.

We are a football first school. Basketball will never be

king here unless . . .it is forced on us by our admin who wants to align with the Wine and Cheesers for academic reasons.

And if that happened--it would be the end of Clemson's soul and spirit.

you can get season tickets to GT by putting no money

Jun 12, 2012, 10:05 PM

towards their athletic fund raising arm...none...just pay for the tickets...try that at UGA or Clemson

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

GT is NOT at all a big market program....not even close

Jun 12, 2012, 10:02 PM [ in reply to GT is not a big market program ]

the only time they sell 50k seats is either when Clemson or UGA come to town...that's it...otherwise they sell 40k tickets a game

It's a shame they tore Pitt Stadium down. On campus and a

much better atmosphere than the pro field. They've got a strong history and put competitive teams out but this new stadium arrangement took the college out of their games. Just like what's happening in Miami now. They both should look to build their own facilities closer to campus. They're always much more intimidating atmospheres than the pro fields provide.
