Lets see if I can ask this w/o getting blasted

Nov 16, 2014, 8:31 AM

If you gave Spurrier the athletes Clemson has on offense, with Cole Stoudt at QB, do you think we avg 13 points vs Syracuse, BC, and GT?

Heck, doesn't have to be Spurrier... give them to Cutcliff, Jimbo, Fedora... any of those guys. Do you think we'd be that bad with no identity?

This is not a "bash" or "fire" post... but it does make you think about our system and lack of identity.

What they had to work with. Seems like The OBC can get back-ups to produce.

Chad seems overpaid IMO. He has this HUGE play board and seems to only use a very small part of it. Under spurrier cole would have been benched long time ago and we'd be talking about nick.

Re: Lets see if I can ask this w/o getting blasted

Nov 16, 2014, 8:47 AM

We have 2/3 star caliber players at RB, QB, and OLine. Due to both injuries and lack of "big misses" in recruiting. It's the "popular" thing to say "glad he's a tiger" when we get fallbacks like stoudt, Howard, and gallman committed when in actuality we're missing on guys like gurley and Marshall and name your close miss. It's a mixture of that and devestating injuries to dye, choice, and now Watson.

Here's an unpopular thing to say. We are in this qb situation because of dabo instead of a normal punishment for Kelly he kicks him off the team to save his love child stoudt from the humiliation of being beat out by a freshman AND sophomore. I woulda mouthed off too if I was told stoudt was better than me.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think we have talent...in fact

Nov 16, 2014, 9:29 AM

I think we "out talent" 85% of the teams we play.

I don't say this lightly... but the trends over the last 3-4 years show that Shen coaching is at a premium, (equal talent for the most part)... we do not do well.

I think we have the skill people. The talent that gets CU best is no OL to control line of scrimmage, get 4th and one when needed with a qb under center. JMHO

Now that is a good post with some validity.
I thought the same thing on Kelly.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah. Kelly totally wasn't kicked out because

Nov 16, 2014, 10:43 AM [ in reply to Re: Lets see if I can ask this w/o getting blasted ]

he caused a wreck and then threatened the person in the other car.

Get a grip. Kelly was a thug. Go pull for FSU if that's the type of people you want around.

Great points. How is it that SCAR can loose Connor Shaw

Nov 16, 2014, 8:58 AM

right before our game, insert Dylan Thompson, and beat us at home?

Or that FSU can suspend Crablegs, insert Sean Maguire, and still defeat us (a top 25 team)?

But our starting QB gets hurt and we can't seem to complete a forward pass with our backup?

CM gets paid $1.4mm to adjust his offense to the players he has available. Cole Stoudt isn't as bad as he looked yesterday. CM just can't seem to put our players in the best position to make plays.

You're mostly right but I disagree about Cole Stoudt.

The dude IS that bad and that's not even a question at this point.

He doesn't look anything like the QB who played the past

Nov 16, 2014, 9:14 AM

couple of years.

We used to joke that he needed to start over TB since CS had a higher completion %. And yes, that was against lesser competition, but who did we just play? Syracuse and Wake Forest.

Bubble screen right...bubble screen left...or whatever you want to call it...
We have that...and we have delayed "draw" between the guards....that's about it.
Vanilla doesn't even describe it anymore....pasty chalky faded white maybe.

It's 2010 all over again.

Nov 16, 2014, 9:09 AM

Except this time Dabo won't fire his offensive coordinator because the lie/excuse of our circumstances (that our coaches created) will get him through another year.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There's something in these hills.

Re: Lets see if I can ask this w/o getting blasted

Nov 16, 2014, 9:15 AM

No blasting from here. We have got so many problems with so few answers, I dare say anyone of the afore mentioned coaches could do at least something. We did nothing positive yesterday except Lakip's 2 FG's. I have no confidence in our staff making any adjustments during the game. It's very hard being positive right now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's simple York those are coaches who coach and gameplan.

Nov 16, 2014, 9:18 AM

And they have out coached ours at every opportunity of late. They know what there doing . Ours not so much. But WE DO WHAT WE DO , WE ARE WHO WE ARE !

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

First of all, it's a shame you have to preface your post

Nov 16, 2014, 9:56 AM

like you did, but that is where we are on this web site.

To your question, the answer is no, and I think the reason is the way Morris approaches his job. I think that he is totally absorbed with X's and O's. He explains that with 'It's what we do' and 'We play our game.' I see no evidence that he makes significant adjustments based on either the team we are playing or the players we have on the field. Watson's skill is on another level than Cole's, but the play calling is the same. I also think Morris's playbook is extensive and unnecessarily complex. And he calls complex plays that have a high potential for failure, when a simple play would be more effective. Remember Sammy and the pass against the chickens?

Spurrier, on the other hand, will study his opponents, identify weaknesses, and attack them all day. When he finds something that works, he continues until you stop him. It wasn't luck that Connor Shaw ran the ball against us so effectively. Repeatedly. I think if Morris had been Shaw's coach, we would have gone through every play in the playbook rather than do that one simple thing of successfully attacking our weakness.

Dylan Thompson was 2* coming out of high school....

Nov 16, 2014, 10:31 AM

and has a chance to set the single season yardage record at that other school.

Cole was the 21st rated QB in the 2010 class. DT was unrated. Both are 5th year Sr's.

But here's the difference. Look at the line Thompson has protecting him vs CS (the pundits say the best line in their history?) Stoudt arguably has better options at the skill positions.

I dunno. Did you watch the FSU game last night?

Nov 16, 2014, 12:38 PM

Winston had all day in the pocket. He just stood there until a receiver had separation down field. Contrast that with how Boyd and Stoudt had to run for their lives when we played teams that had a good defense. Watson masks that deficiency with his ability to scramble and throw accurately on the run. IMHO, if we had a line that could protect Stoudt, he would be a much more effective QB.

Which brings up another question. Dabo and Morris say Stoudt was the best QB in practice. Did the QB's have to perform in practice with a defense chasing them in the backfield? Or was it just snaps?

Re: Dylan Thompson was 2* coming out of high school....

Nov 16, 2014, 11:59 AM [ in reply to Dylan Thompson was 2* coming out of high school.... ]

I don't buy OL for the very fact that it only looks bad as it does - esp in the passing game, because we have a QB who can't make a decision any faster than most people can find derivatives in their heads.

Michigan State, Stanford and Bama would all look terrible in pass pro if Cole was back their doing his statue routine.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IBWG is right. The scheme demands that the QB...

Nov 16, 2014, 12:14 PM

Can make a read and change his decision once a play evolves. If you watch CS replays he barely looks any other way once a play starts.

When he snaps the ball he has already made up his mind who the ball is going to, regardless of triple coverage.

Watson is really good at reading the defense and finding the open receivers.

I'm not defending Morris, I think it's a combination of both bad QB play and poor offensive adjustments.

Something must be done, and It starts with playing Nick vs Ga state

Yes they would suck too, the guy has a girl arm

Nov 16, 2014, 12:02 PM

He can't throw the deep ball at all, not much you can do with a wet noodle arm qb. You have to basically play in a 10 yard box. Can't run cause teams stack the box. You either have a QB and are good, or don't and suck

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nov 16, 2014, 12:08 PM

Especially when the guys that got hurt aren't world beaters either.

We have lost precisely 0 All-Conference OL contenders. The gap shouldn't be that wide between mediocre starter and mediocre backup.

Get Hyatt and the other kid in here ASAP and hope they pan out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is 100% spot on.

Nov 16, 2014, 12:28 PM

This is year four of Chad's system, and I swear he has no idea what he wants to do from one series to the next. This has been the case in games in the past as well. Heck, maybe it's always been the case. Games like NC State in 2011 and FSU last year come to mind.

People need to stop with the lack of talent, thin OL, and injuries nonsense. Just stop. This offense wasn't installed last week. Chad's had over a month without DW to develop something even remotely resembling an offense. It hasn't happened, and it won't magically happen in the next two weeks.
