Lenovo Ultrabook vs Microsoft Surface
Feb 10, 2015, 10:54 AM

I need to run CAD and some programming software. Would also be nice to have a USB port, and the flexibility of a tablet. I was sold on a Surface until I saw a colleagues Lenovo Ultrabook, which he spoke very highly of. Anybody have either? Recommendations?

decision by the weekend as it will be needed. I'm kind of leaning towards the Lenovo just because I think that detachable keyboard on the Surface would get annoying.

never seen anybody use a Surface for a real world application. It would be nice if they'd buy you a full blown laptop.

Mac that was running parallels and it didn't work. If we strictly ran Windows, do you think we'd have an issue? Supposedly it's something in the Java ######, I have no idea, I just know how to operate the programs and have no idea about anything else.

You could try it in bootcamp.

The only reason I say a Mac is because of the hardware. It really is better than most Windows boxes.
But the Mac OS sucks.

keyboards are incredible, got long battery life, super reliable just like every other thinkpad has always beeen. I don't know if you'd want da i-7 version for your CAD stuff, but if so it could get a little pricey...

I got one through Clemson in 2006 and it all but died roughly two years later, after a short life of nothing but problems...I'm hoping they're better now?

and actually still runs, but the screen looks like crap and it's slow. I bought another Thinkpad 4 years ago and it still runs like brand new and is on the original battery. I've had an Ideapad for 5 or 6 years and it runs okay but is physically breaking down. I believe that Lenovo's highend models, like Thinkpad, are hard to beat. Very sturdy computers.

I'm not too impressed with the surfaces, I would avoid those.
