Leaving for Edisto a week from today...

Jul 7, 2012, 10:05 AM

any suggestions on what Scotch I should bring along? Not a fan of Islays, so go ahead and X those off.

Also will probably be bringing along some Rocky Patel 92's.

Any other good smokes to consider?

APM is no longer a drinker, can't help you there.

Good choice on the Rocky Patels though!

As far as scotch, I like Balvenie DoubleWood or The Macallan

. Either pairs nicely with a Padron 64. Cabaiguan is another really good one that several people have told me is the most Cuban-like of any non-Cuban cigar they've ever smoked. Other favorites include Padilla 1932, Casa Magna Colorado, and EP Carrillos. Also, the Padron "thousand series" (2000, 3000, etc.) are all great smokes that can be had for very reasonable prices.

Have had both the Macallan and the Balvenie Doublewood.

I've found the Doublewood varies in quality; it's sort of a "feminine" Macallan. Both fine Scotches.

I've tried many single malt non blends but keep

coming back to blended Johnnie Walker Black the old standby.

I think I like it because it's good straight up, with just ice, with a little water or sparkling water.

Great choice on the Rocky Patels. If you are leaving from Greenville stop by Boda Pipes and pick up some Fuente Anejo or Opus X. Was in there a couple weeks ago and they just got them in.
