Just so Tnet has someone to yell at, I like the ACCT format.

1. It doesn't throw out the regular season. What a team does all year goes a long way to help decide who gets to the championship game. Much more than double elimination format. Since the regular season is 95% of the season by the end of the tourney, that makes sense to me.

2. If you win, you advance. All the crying about tiebreakers are blown up by the simple fact that if you win all your games, you win the ACC. And if nobody wins them all, the teams with the better regular season have an advantage. Is that really outrageous?

3. It saves pitching for the REAL postseason. The real measure of season success is how far you make it the national tourney. ACC tourney titles are nice added bonuses. But the conference tourney is more of an audition for the real deal.

4. It's not THAT hard to understand. And Tigernet lays out all the scenarios for the confused people anyway. Here's a hint... we want Clemson to beat UVA.

The majority of coaches, obviously, prefer this format.

Leggett was one of the few against it. I like the double Elim better, but to act like this format doesn't have advantages like the ones you laid out is pretty ignorant.

Certainly this year, with our limited pitching, this format is light years better than a double elim.

Well if we beat UVA or LVille and one of them go to the championship game with the same record as the Tigers.
We will see how you like it then.

if we beat either UVA or UL, we will host a regional

and nobody will give a damm.

Well a few people will but, nobody thought we would host this year before the season with this pitching staff.

I would like it just fine. Regular season counts.***

the fact that you can be eliminated yet still playing

May 22, 2016, 9:03 PM

is the goofiest facet of this.

And sometimes you have to root for an eliminated team that's already prepping for next week to win to give yourself a chance to make the championship.

I see the reason why it is done. But it just goes against the entire nature of tournament competition. It's not what sports is about.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

which is also why the early Friday slot is perfect

May 22, 2016, 9:11 PM

because you aren't eliminated after 1 game. If you had the late Friday slot and lost game 1, then you could already be eliminated from the whole tourney before your second game.

Yeah, there's meaningless Saturday games every year

May 22, 2016, 9:13 PM [ in reply to the fact that you can be eliminated yet still playing ]

for some teams and occasionally for both teams
participating. How excited do eliminated teams
and their fans get for that? That's kind of the
opposite of the do or die nature of double elim.

Most regular season games by April are worthless for many.

Should they cancel regular season games for that reason? And you get your double elim format by the end of the year.

Agree, I actually prefer the format. It's better in almost every way except the casual fan doesn't like it.
