JUMBO PACKAGE

How about using a jumbo package on short yardage situations??? Is our coaching staff so dense or stubborn they can’t recall how well that works??? There’s so many variations you can throw in too for trickery. Put WOODS OR THOMAS back there and let them lead . Instead we just keep running the same 2 or 3 plays that haven’t worked great and everyone opponent has seen. What a joke🤦🏻‍♂️

I made a post about this last season. I have no idea why a team that can’t put the ball over the line wouldn’t consider jumbo as a viable option. Maybe it’s pride and thinking “we can put it in using our normal schemes”

To me , this is where a coaching staff earns their money and can affect the game in a dramatic fashion. Just running vanilla plays and saying we gotta execute better and saying the players gotta play better is a cop out. Yes , players have to execute, that’s understood, but coaches also have to design and scheme solutions . Short yardage is hard for every team . We may need a short yardage specialist OC play caller. Heck , we’ve got a coach for everything else.😂😂😂

I think the problem is that the offensive line is losing. Putting a jumbo package in just makes for more traffic behind the line of scrimmage which leads to worse outcomes.

That makes no sense. Two 300 pounders with a 4 step head of steam can move that pile. It’s Physics. It ain’t complicated.

Here’s why: Imagine PWoo and Peyton Page lined up in the backfield heading towards the LOS to mow some people down. Now realize they would have three of their own linemen knocked to the ground two yards deep at their feet and they trip and stomp on their own guys. Now the RB is hit 5 yards deep instead of the two yards deep that’s happening now. Our tissue soft RPO scheme has destroyed any physicality the O line ever had. It’s been coached right out of them.

Where's mafah? He led a good block for Shipley. Why's he only getting 5 snaps last night. He's been a beast and shown promise whereas Shipley hasn't in short yardage.

It’s just a very small part of our coaching debacle, but winning short yardage situations is probably the MOST IMPORTANT thing a football team can do and we have ABSOLUTELY NO ANSWERS. For $20M dollars worth of coaching, we should expect a little more.
