Is there a path to the ACCCG for Clemson?

Sep 25, 2023, 9:08 PM

It feels like we could beat anybody or lose to anybody with this group.

We outplayed Duke and FSU but since we lost the turnover margin in both we lost both games.

The question is if we can tie up our loose ends (coaching included), can enough happen for us to back door in to the acccg? FSU likely in, could we end up in a 3 way tie-breaker with Duke and say Miami or UNC for 3rd? If we have head to head wins over 2 of 3 would we go?

@Syracuse will tell us a lot about this 2023 team.

No way to know yet but clearly we have to win Saturday.

Sure

I don’t think anybody is going undefeated in ACC play this year. Our remaining schedule has enough quality opponents (ND, Mia, UNC heck even Syr and GT look decent) gives us a shot of being in the top two. But there is no room for error, and unfortunately error is our middle name right now.

If we win out, of course there is always a chance. But even then, it is minuscule. Duke or FSU will have to drop 3 conference games and since ND doesn’t count as a conference game, I’m not sure I see Duke losing three. They will both probably lose two at max, and in a three way tie of 2 losses, we lost to both.

But, I agree with your last sentence. If we go out there Saturday and win by a large margin against a 4-0 team, I like our chances to at least get by with only 1 more loss this season.

Just looking at the schedules, Duke has:

NC St (3-1)
@FSU (4-0)
@Louisville (4-0)
@UNC (4-0)

as toughest remaining games (not including non member Notre Dame this weekend).

Maybe it’s me, I see 2+ losses in there. 2 losses presents 3 way tiebreaker scenario if other teams also have two losses. 3 losses and they’re out.

ACC is a low key good conference this season.

There’s definitely a chance until we are mathematically eliminated.

I don’t have any patents, but if I did it would be a patent on some technology to improve the doom and gloom fans attitudes!

Only game left that makes me truly think Clemson will have to play perfect to win is ND and its really going to be on Goodwin that game bc ND does not have any good wrs so they will be one dimensional, can goodwin put together a better gameplan this year and get his guys to fill the right gaps?

Need FSU to win all ACC games. Duke needs to drop 3 Acc games and then everyone else needs to lose at least 2 conference games. Its not very likely.

Duke
Miami
UNC
Louisville
FSU

All still undefeated. Could get messy. Louisville May have the easiest path of the 5.

Yeah if they buy a ticket, not being a smart @$$ but as of now just the truth.

Yes there is...

Sep 26, 2023, 9:27 AM

but Clemson will need A LOT of help and must win out in conference play.

winning out part. Win out, and we will go to a very nice bowl, not that much different than where we would go by winning the ACC but missing the Playoffs. Probably a Dec. 30th vs a Jan. 1. Any ACC Championship game hopes require so many other losses by multiple teams as to be almost pipe dreams at this point in time.

How ironic is it that it appears, finally this year that the ACC overall is much more respectable in football, just as we shot ourselves out of it early in the season? I am told (on here) that "Run the Table" is the teams new motto. Here's hoping they follow through on that.

It's probably possible, but incredibly unlikely

Sep 26, 2023, 10:08 AM

because I don't think we're going 6-0 the rest of the way in the league. Still some tough outs on the schedule, and we've already seen that this team can't afford to make mistakes and still beat quality teams. We would need to play nearly flawless football to go undefeated down the stretch.

And, honestly, we're already 3 games behind Duke and FSU (I assume head to head is still a primary tiebreaker), so it's quite possible we already have no shot even if we win out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes. Win out and hope for 3 losses from Dook.***
